Okay here it is.

I currently work in a call center as a Travel Consultant (People call me and book vacations to Whistler and Colorado) I love working with people, but all I can think about sitting in front of this computer is CG (I've already asked they wont let me install any graphics software) :annoyed:

I've done 2 years of Computer Science @ Simon Fraser University (I found I didn't like programming) I have a certificate in Macintosh Multimedia @ Vancouver Community College (learned how to use Director, Photoshop, Quark Express, and Premiere) Finished my first year of a 2 year course in Computer Animation @ Centre for Digital Imaging and Sound CDIS (XSI, Maya, more Photoshop, more Premiere, life drawing, AXA, story boarding, character design, and 2D animation)

I've worked for a Sheet Director before where I got to divide up the time sheets for him, and do some Lip Sync. I worked managing a few different Radio Shack stores and a Rogers AT&T, so I have management experience.

While in school I found I could live off of 4 to 5 hours of sleep. All I wanted to do when I got up was get back in front of the computer and work on my characters or my scene. I find that I really like working with people too though.

I needed to give some background so you could understand where I'm coming from with this. I have all this education and I know I've got the talent, and I'm stuck working this job.

A teacher of mine suggest I become like an in between person, between the Animators and the programmers in a gaming company. I think I need more experience for this though. Plus what is this position called and how do I apply if I were going to.

I would also love to be a recruiter, and again how do I apply, and do I need more courses. I could also teach (I need more education for this I know) I love modeling. I love altering pictures in Photoshop (I could work for a magazine)

Any advise? I know it's extremely long so I don't know if anyone actually got through the whole thing. :shrug:

The best tool I can recommend is an internet domain.
Post your work, apply - get into the industry!

Hey Odybear I know what you mean, I have 2 years Lightwave exp, 5 years photoshop, am a member of the british Institute of professional Photographers, have good and related qualifications, have all the equipment to work freelance and all I can find is a job in the local fish and chip shop! grrr...

I have been looking for cg related jobs but I must be in the wrong country or something, its very hard to find work no matter how good you are.

I still have my fingers crossed and am still searching though...

Did you try EA. I was on their web site a while ago and they had openings in the UK. (when you said british Institute of professional Photographers, I'm assuming you live in the UK)

I'm fully willing to relocate. I have no problem with that. I guess it's just I don't know how to go about starting to apply. Half the jobs I'd like to do I don't know if I need a portfolio for.

I think I'm going to get my butt in gear and get a domain up.

Hiya;
The best, most concentrated hour or so of education I've had in the past few years is at:
http://www.cg-char.com/faq.html

That's CG-Char's FAQs, chock full of professional-advice-goodness.

Best of luck;

Thanks, I guess the best thing I can do is just sit down and get something done. From what I've been hearing from people the best way to learn is to teach yourself, or ask other people. That's basically how I learned in school anyway.

I just don't know if that's what I really want to do or if I rather work with the people in the industry to help them or do something else around them. Okay I think I might have just confused myself :shrug:

I'd just like to be able to recruit, train or manage I guess. I'll figure it out! :D
