Hi .. first of all I`d like to say thanx for every one here that works to hard to teach the students
and every one here want to learn drawing in general an the anatomy special ...
i`m new here and new in the art world .... but i love drawing so match ..
i decided to start learning drawing and anatomy but i found it Berty hard ..
actually i want to become a manganka or manga artist .. the way that Japanese
draw there cartoons and comics .. but in fact when i started to read collection of books
that called " how to draw manga " i found it hard and need an artist that know how to
draw .. actually that books don't teach you the drawing .. it just teach you
style of Japaneses drawing only .. so i started to learn the anatomy .. and me source is
riven phoenix course that i just but in the top of the thread ... so what do
you think ? .. is it good course and i`ll be good in anatomy after i finish it ? or
do think there is a better course ... ? or you see some thing ales for me ?
something ales... i want to say that i like video lessons rather than books ....
but no problem with books if it`s the only choice ...

Hi ESCADX!

I am still beginner in drawing and I have followed the Phoenix course. I have to say it helped me a lot to remember basic proportions fast and it gave me good method on how to learn anatomy. With this dvd you could also have some anatomy books near with you. So when you watch his video and draw a hand for instance, you could also look at reference in anatomy book.

And if are new to drawing I suggest you to look for Andrew Loomis books :

personally i dont like his style i find him so boring he is like a grammar teacher

The Structure Of Man course helped me immensely, highly recommended.

I also find Phoenix style too slow and ... and.. well.. after you hear "Hi, my name is Riven Phoenix, today...." 100 times, you can only go nuts.

I think Glen Vilppu is the way to go. : )
and like ahtiandr already suggested Loomis is also good stuff.

In regards to the "hi, my name is Riven Phoenix"
He started out as a blogger who posted his videos on his blogspot. If you were to stumble upon his blog, you would probably know he was Riven Pheonix, but he still introduced himself to a viewer who might be watching the video for the first time. He got a lot of great feedback and turned the video series into a course. :shrug:

I've taken his course and I like it. Teaching styles only annoy me when the teacher starts telling you how to be exactly like them, :banghead: and that it's their way or the no-way. But being a DVD course, you can forward and skip around as much as you want and apply his technique to yours in anyway you like.

The artists' names recommended by the others here are great to follow up with as well. But hey, no one says you have to have just one teacher! Give them all a try. You might take something different from each one. :thumbsup:

edit: didn't realize this thread was so old. D'oh!

His results look somewhat amateurish to me, and the last time I pointed it out he (or someone close to him) attacked me with a sockpuppet forum account.

I have a lot of the Vilppu DVDs, and those are quite good.

Of course, the best way to learn to draw people is to take a proper life drawing course, working from a living model. Very few manga artists know how to draw a human figure, so if you can develop yourself in that area, your work will stand out from the crowd.
