Has anyone been able to get the lm2dmv motion vector shader working with Maya 2011 on 64-Bit Mac? I have it working in Maya 2010 but not 2011.

I seem to have all the files needed to make it work except the mental ray lib file. I noticed that the difference between 2010 lib files and 2011 lib files is the extensions have changed.

They used to be .so but now are .dylib

I'm assuming this is why it's not working. Anyone know where a lm2DMV mental ray lib file is with the .dylib extension? Or is there a way I can convert the .so to a .dylib?

I haven't tried this but if you really need this, maybe try setting Maya to 32-bit mode and see if they load with the older .mi/.so files.

fyi: mental rays new buffer system outputs motion vetctors, and they work just as well.

how exactly do you utilize the new buffer system?

+1 can you share more info on how this works? Also will it work with something like reelsmarts RSMB plugin?

okay having a play - setup a new renderpass layer.. assigned the 3d motion vector preset to it - doesn't seem to do much.

read this in the manual...

Force Motion Vector Computation This option forces the computation of motion transform and per vertex motion vector. Normally, this is automatically done when you enable motion blur; however, if you do not want mental ray to render the motion blur effect, but you want the motion vectors and motion transforms to be available during rendering (without blurring the image), you can enable this option so that mental ray for Maya provides the motion data. For example, you must enable this option if you creating the motion vector type passes (2D Motion Vector, 3D Motion Vector, Normalized 2D Motion Vector).

Didn't seem to make much difference to the image but I guess its hidden/encoded data - would like to see what can 'use' that.. for example reelsmart RSMB plugin for afx?

anyone any experience? I had a really nice use of using the lm_2DMV plugin for maya85 and afterfx reelsmart motion blur and I got REALLY accurate motion blur in seconds per frame instead of minutes and it was all editable/keyframable as well. I've lost that process now and cant seem to reproduce it in maya2010 :(

Is this any help?

I haven't tried it but am wanting to look into this for the future with V-Ray and Nuke.

here's my tutorial that I quickly wrote up for setting up the lm2DMV and usage...

Hi schnackshack.

Today I compiled a Maya 2011 64-bit for Mac OS X version of the lm2dmv motion vector mental ray shader.

It can be downloaded here (http://www.andrewhazelden.com/files/2011/February/lm2DMV_for_Maya_2011_64-bit_on_Mac_OS_X.zip).

You can read more about the Mac OS X 64-bit version here (http://www.andrewhazelden.com/blog/2011/02/lm2dmv-for-maya-2011-64-bit-on-mac-os-x/).
