Hey, it looks like you are already off to a good start
Is that a path running down the middle?
It's funny because all the tops of your trees look like animals mouths that are open :scream:
It obviously needs a lot more detail, but as you said you are still working on it.
I think the one problem with this is that, at the moment, it is very similar to a lot of other entries. You try and add something truly unique to it - mechanical animals sound cool, but make sure that they don't look exactly the same as the other mech posts we have around here ;)
Is a bit early to say precise comments, but this scene reminds me the ICE AGE.......it is a good thing, dont u think? ...;)

thx for the nice words I had seen ur work it's really pro keep going ,about the middel path as u know the idea didn't complete in my mind I might change it still thinking and it's my first enviorement
I didn't think about the open mouse tree :p is it bad?
the real problem with mechanical things that it's need alot of work and details hope I could finsh it:shrug:
-OZ- :
Ice age I love it but I didn't think about my entry as an ice age one but it's a good idea thx;)
great work u have too keep going
Ok here is my first mechanical animal still under construction

No, I think the trees mouths are great! Keep them like that!!
Your animal is looking cool so far - just add more detail - possible bolts, and hydraulic pistons or somethiing...

I am still working with the mechanicals animals :hmm:
and I have probelms with grass ,do u all use a plugins for grass ??
Ok here is alittel update
yeah i hear you with the grass thing, its kinda hard to get a realy good looking ground with just a texture, and the program i use at least doesnt have any real cool grass plugins, so it kinda sticks us in a corner when taking this kind of project on eh?

what program do u use?
I think there is a grass plugins for max but I don't know where:shrug: ??
I think if I use some cylinders with scaling and taper my Pc will blow up:hmm:

Hey dodo
Unfortunately, as it is NOW, the grass isnt looking too good. But that doesnt mean you cant make it alot better.
Here are some tips and suggetions
first of, make it alot more dense.
then, try to add variation in thickness and the lenght, and how much its bent and such.
After that, try to add different shapes of foliage besides grass that covers the ground, and add the same type of variations to those.
hopefully this was a tad helpfull :)

PedramK --->
thx for the advice I had add more dense to the grass and here is an update for my forest hope to hear comments about it?
but about the foliage thing I can't understand it would I put it upove the grass or on a ground without a grass or what??

hi dodo
#1 - those stones down in the left corner look a bit obscene
#2 - that 360 degree arrayed flower could use some chaos
#3 - the grass isnt dense enough, and it has a pattern (look at pedramk's post)
#4 - the branches on the trees look weird
#5 - if there are braches on the ground that have been cut off, there should be some kind of scars on the trees
I hope this was helpful, good luck

I just had an idea for your piece. Later on towards the end of your stuff you could make the little grey whirlygig bots dropping water or something in to the tops of the trees that look like mouths. I think that would be kind of cool.

here's a good method for making grass in max:

thx for the commments it had been useful but about the branches what's rong with it?? remember the challenge is an enchanted forest so u can do what u want it's imagination not reallity ;)
ZrO-1---->
nice idea as usual thx
sinistergfx---->
thx for the tutorial it's the same way I had used for my work but the problem is with the dense of the grass as u know my pc gona crazy I had duplicted the grass mesh to about 20000x6=120000 mesh and the dense is still bad
very nice tree! and good cartoon style.Keep it up!

Nice, I must say that I love your mechanical creatures! They are truly great, as for the grass.... try downlpading shag-hair the plugin because the grass is looking unreal.....sorry...
Anyway nice work!!!

Sangotten--->
I had been tired with the grass thing:rolleyes: I tried to increase the dense and the noumber of the grass but they still looking unreal ,about the plug-ins u said (shag-hair) where can I find it and is it for 3dsmax??
Scott Harris--->
yeah I had seen this site before it's really a good inspiration for such a project like mine thx for the advice

Here is a littel update for the main mechanical animal still working with it but I need comments?
dodo3d
06-07-2002, 02:34 PM
I think the background of the forest image dosn't fit the subject of an enchanted forest ,what do u think?
plz give me some ideas about the background would I make a fog in the ground or just a sky ??
ZrO-1
06-07-2002, 02:57 PM
Yeah, I'm not too crazy about that background you put in there. It really doesn't fit the scene. Maybe make a sketchy-style version of your image in PS and try dropping that in the background. Keep it blurry without much more than some basic color blockings and some suggestion to the light direction.
I do really like the spin you put on the propeller blades on the robots. I love the work you've done on the main mech creature. I think all it needs are some more mechanical bits on its head to work better with the complexity of it's legs. Good stuff so far.

thx for the nice words and the nice idea of the background but the problem that I am not good with PS

I am still working with the lights ,would I change the light to a darker one (night) or is it good  ?
what about the effects is the star ray is good or bad?
plz need help with that cause I am tierd with playing with lights
levin
06-10-2002, 02:34 AM
hey
maybe you should consider randomizing the grass-- its length, thickness and density. it would look more real.
add some color variation to the trees and rocks, also your little choppers, it makes a big difference.
dodo3d
06-11-2002, 12:30 AM
The texture is still under constriction ,but the grass I think I'll let it as it's cause I am tierd with it and my pc gone crazy
what about the lighting is it good?:hmm:
pearson
06-11-2002, 06:33 AM
Well, right now I can't tell where the light is coming from. The trees don't seem to cast shadows... Try to get darker shadows (turn down the ambient?) so it's easier to see the shapes. I think the star effect is fine, but it doesn't look like the light is coming from there.
dodo3d
06-11-2002, 12:08 PM
I used omni light for the source lighting with casting shadows ,another omni one for the inverce light ,spot light to show the darker side of the trees and an omni one in the top back of the forest for the star effect
I think that if I make the light darker the details of the mechanical animal will go away cause the size of these animals supose to be small :hmm:
Ok I'll send the update after I find a solution for the lighting problem
levin&pearson: thx for the feed back
pearson
06-11-2002, 05:33 PM
dodo3d - Hmm, I don't use omni lights, but I didn't think they could cast shadows for some reason...is it just a point light then?
I would suggest that you start simple: Use 1 directional light for your main light source and one ambient light to keep the shadows from going totally black. Then see what needs more light and adjust as needed.
I think that for the creatures you may want to link lights to each of them individually so you can light them each as needed without messing up the scene.

thx for ur advices about lights I think I like it and I'll try ur idea for destribeting lights thx again

I am still waiting for some comments about my creature?
Is it so bad that u don't want to comment on it?
just tell me I can model it again if it's this bad

06-12-2002, 05:32 PM
Can't speak for anyone else, for me the huge volume of posts on this challenge means keeping up and make comments to everything is impossible. So I tend to say something if I'm really stunned by the quality of something or there's a glaring error. I'm less likely to respond to something that's going well, your creature is coming along nicely so falls in that category.
But for the sake of saying something maybe the human teeth don't quite fit somehow, but nothing to lose sleep over.

06-12-2002, 06:27 PM
I still think that either the head needs more mechanical bits, or the legs need less. Right now it looks like an organic creature living inside a mechanical shell. That could be cool also, but if you do that then you'll have to show the difference between the organic and mechanical parts with textures. As far as the creature in general I like the modeling you've done. I think the shapes you have are great. Just not comfortable with the contrast between the different parts right now.
Just my 2 cents.
