I am presently conducting research to explore best practices in CG education. I am trying to hunt down info, peer reviewed preferably, on how to best teach CG. Everything from the an overview of course structure to the nitty gritty details.

I have had a flick through the ACM Siggraph educators programs of past and was wondering if there is any other resources like that out there?

Also if anyone knows if there is a forum dedicated to teachers of CG somewhere?

Any feedback would be welcomed : )

Hi there

There used to be a lecturers/educators forum on the old Autodesk site but that has long disappeared alas with the rise of The Area - unless someone knows if an archive of it exists somewhere?

The Skillset organisation in the UK is a government body that promotes better quality teaching/learning experiences for animators. They have three large papers that discuss what should be taught in a Foundation Degree animation programme of study - however this is below degree level, what level are your students at?

http://www.skillset.org/animation/qualifications/article_5918_1.asp This should be the page with the PDFs on it.

My memory was that they also had such things for degree level, you might have to email them to ask for those as they are designed for courses that want to gain the Skillset accreditation (and so get a little logo to append to all their promotional material and impress students parents :) ), so they probably only give those out to interested parties in the UK.

I had to write an essay about a similar subject a few years ago and found almost nothing on the subject (in the UK at least, the essay was concerned with teaching CG in the UK). Good luck!
