View Full Version : Anyone using Phenom x6 here??
earwax69 07-25-2010, 12:59 AM I would like to share a scene and compare speed with my i7 860. I plan to get a 1055t for a render node but as it is the same price as a i7 860, I wonder which one will be faster...

I'm using an 1090T. It is a marvel. No complaints whatsoever, and reduced my render times to less than half compared to my old machine, core2quad@2.3ghz. I didn't do any real benchmarking before and after, save render a scene before and after (thanks to an undecided client) the machine change. The changes in the scene were cosmetic, but the render time did drop to less than half. Even games, that are not supposed to be so multi-core friendly work smoother.
The downside is, until next week (Monday I hope), I'm stuck with just 4gigs of ram. I had 8gigs on the previous machine, but surprisingly it did not seem to affect performance too much.

Thanks for the feedback!! yeah, 4gb work fine for me. Only AE crash once per month. Lightwave dont really care about memory anyway. Ive ordered the parts for a 1055t machine and added a good cooler. Im going to overclock to 3.8-4ghz if possible. I plan to take the 4gb of ram and add it to my i7 when not using the phenom for a while. 8gb will make AE happy!
Since I upgraded to a i7 my work really got more ambitious. The phenom will help when render time get too heavy. (for HD projects mainly)
Im not too happy about the price though... I was hoping saving a bit more compare to an Intel system. All will depend on the benchmarks after overclocking. If I get a 10% boost over the i7 I will be satisfied.
