View Full Version : Object: Glass Still Life
Johnny_Cannuck 09-24-2003, 04:49 PM I made this using basic 3 point lighting as part of my demo requirement for school. Let me know what you think!

Good start!
Crits-
The glass needs a bit more refraction
The pear's bump map is too precise, smooth out those dimples dude! Also too much bump. Vary it a bit with some outward (subtle) bumps as well.
The background would look better if it's a real-world material. It looks like you were going for smoke, but the shadows give it away as a flat surface.
Keep it up!

I think the glass is excellent, now the pear needs some attention, variation in color and less obvious pits.

Indeed, the pores on the pear are too regular, and too much like tiny holes, when they should be tiny dimples with a great deal of variation between one and the next. Looks very cool though. But fix that pear. And you might consider putting some red and green tones in it.
<<edit>>
I just noticed another thing....the pear is not contacting the surface. This can be easily remedied simply by leaning it slightly toward the camera.

The glass needs more polys. You can see corners (unless this a older glass and meant for these imperfections)and such and of course more polys mean more render time(ouch!).You can also see the polys in the glass refraction itself inside the glass due to low polys. It could just be,without the wireframe to judge,it could just be that the software is caculating it that way,
There is a sharp glare reflection in the glass so caustics should be flying about somewhere in the scene.
I think the glass shouldnt be casting a shadow such as that either. Its hard to find what I am refering to but in this picture (http://www.kereds.co.uk/carocraft/carocraft-pics/ld-w.jpg) you can see the shadow is hollowed out and not define as you hav it here.Remember that light bends always, almost always and check out the caustics.
The pear looks fine but its almost floating and needs to have some visual weight applied.
Hope this helps a little but it just may be that I dont know sh*t...lol
