 sweeeeet:drool:
I like it a lot, superb modeling.
My critics:
The right foot is not over the ground.
there is something weird at the left armpit.
I would remove all the shadows from the ground except one.
Anyway 5x:thumbsup:
Is not you of in a dream lover!?
ha,ha,ha!!!:surprised :surprised

One little crit though, I think the hair style doens't quite match the rest of the model.
So how do you like maya? What 3D software did you use before?
seantree n yahll:
Thank you for your advice,i'll rectify them soon:)
ill say diffuse the shadows more till it looks like one...
BTW AWESOME MODEL!!!!
very beautifull girl...
sincerely

I made her head and body separately,so them don't look like qiute consistent.

Kickass.
I do agree about the hair length though, or maybe it's just the style of it, seems very modern..maybe if she had some kind of jewelry, comb, that kind of thing in it? I dunno.
Aside from the earlier chin comment that's really all I can think of..she's smokin' and very natural looking. Great stuff.

she great...how long did it take u to model her? cant wait for a pic with maps in place
great work:applause:
it's my final project of my study, and it take me about 2 weeks to do it.Texture is my weakness,so i haven't colored it,I think that map a girl is a more difficut job than modeling.I have studied some skill of mapping, but it is not enough to map a girl.:hmm:

woohoo, more pics..nice wireframe, too. Is she modeled in place, or have a skeleton?
Hope you work up the texturing nerve eventually, would really like to see her surfaced, living, breathing, and..ok, I better stop, that's just wrong :D
to hypercube:
I created this pose with skeleton and then cleaned up the twist in the armpit and somewhere. But it is pity that the model can't animat because i deleted many wire in her arthrosis especially in her armpit .

Very nice.. the face in particular is brilliant. Shoulders still look like they should be narrower, softer and rounder to me, and if you get the time, the feet could do with a bit more work. :)

i wish my models came out as smooth as yours:annoyed:
Pretty good.
Her forearm is too big.
other than that, very nice.
To xynaria
yes,i dont satisfy with her foot too.
:annoyed:
I think the modeling of human foot is as difficult as hands.they r too flat and they need more details.
I hope i can reach Martin Murphy's level!

Great modeling job!
The only thing I noticed was that the connection between her left wrist and left hand were odd and that her right hand was a little bit thick (chubby?) in my opinion, but I'm being super nit picky.

First off Roy, great model and congrats on your first attempt in Maya. The only thing that really caught my eye (that I don't think has been mentioned yet) is that the thumbs seem a bit skinny. I don't think the length is bad, they might just need some girth. Other than that.....you've done a great job.
Looking forward to more...

Well roy I think your model is great. Thats some good work for two weeks worth of effort.
I have a question for you. looking at your model did you model your character by creating profile curves and then makeing polycons or subdivsion's out of it.
Whats your method man it's to good for you to keep too your self.

she's beautiful ! really like it - one think I noticed though is that her wrist seems a bit too thick - but maybe that's just personal taste.
Wanna tell us more about you ? What you're studying - how long you've been using Maya, and only Maya ? And what was you're modelling process - which reference did you use, if any , ...
I bet I'm not the only one who wants to know these things =)
Anyway, great model !

for a first model in maya, this is awesome! what other 3d programs have you used before getting into Maya?
ok.. on with critiques
1- the first thing that caught my eye was her hips.. the model needs more definition on the iliac crest. it seems missing there.. a bone like that one should always be noticable on a figure like hers b/c that is one of those bones that are really close to the surface.
2- the clavicle should have more of a curve. it looks kinda flat here. a real clavicle is rounded.. and wraps around the shoulder to meet over the deltoids to join with the scapula.. the clavicle in that 3/4 view looks a little too straight.
the face and hair look really great

:) Great work
Now all you need are some kick-ass textures and it will look photorealistic. Not sure if that's the style you want to go for though.
I thought triangled polys would cause a bad smooth surface. Guess I'm wrong, guess it only applies for Sub-patch modeling in LW.
I think maybe she looks a bit stressed. If the shoulders were lowered she would seem more relaxed.
Very very nice.

Hey Roy, That model is slick! I like it very, very much! Great job! Excellenté!
Hey, have you thought of putting up a tutorial on how you created this model online? Are you using Maya Unlimited? I use both Maya and Lightwave but, I know how powerful Maya Unlimited's SubDs are! Have you ever tried them? Also with Unlimited you could use Maya Cloth on her little skirt, type of deal, and not have to worry so much about animating it so that it won't go through the leg geometry.
Anyways, smooth model! Keep up the great work.

Hmm, very good, but when you are using Maya, why don't you use the hair plugin (did you watch Final Fantasy - The Spirit's Within?) This would solve a lot of problems when animating - but for a still - I can hardly find a negative thing on your model - and for the texturing - I personally prefer the radiosity untextured versions - look better when you are not an texturing god...

Absolutely inspiring work boy-o!
curious.......did you model her in that pose? or was she set up with a skeleton and then posed?
Her brow suggests that she is deep in thought. What's on her mind eh?
To CryptoMojo:
I finish this girl with many classmate's help.A guy of bounding group help me to do her sketelcton system and an animator classmate help me got that pose.I must say the it is diificult to get a good pose and there are some aborted attempt. The balance is the most important.
Great model but found two problem heres!
Hope the update and the texture!
That is a really nice model, and she reminds me a bit of Buffy, but you really need to fix her legs and feet (the heels (as seen on the left foot of the first view in the pic with four views) look really unattractive for a girl's).
Also, am I the only one to notice a whole lotta triangles? It will help when you texture to have only quads in your mesh.
Apart from that, a very neat model. Keep the short hair. ;)
erikals
05-30-2002, 12:52 PM
Yeah nut!?
Was wondering about those triangles myself. But it dosn't seem to affect the model though. or does it?

Errm, this is OT but maybe get your facts straight first -- though Maya was used on FF, what they did definitely not use to do the hair, was Maya. They wrote their own software to do the hair.
The reason is that Maya Fur simply is not good enough to do Hair of the quality seen in FF.
And speaking of solving problems using Fur: being a TD who is forced to use it from time to time as budgets in Germany don't allow the development of custom hair simulation software -- I doubt it and rather tend to believe he'll have more trouble with Fur that w/o it.
Cheers,

Hey Roy, can I say what an awsome model that is, one question though, did u use nurbs at all or did you use sub-d's ? I'm hoping to switch to Maya soon from max but I was wondering how I would go about creating spline type models within maya, as this is my prefered method in max? thanks.
to ade90054:
the modeling method is not important,I use all of those way in my work. It's pity that maya have not Spline modleing, but i like the nurbs in maya better.
:)
Hey roy verry impressive work, im new to maya also and im in a class, twice a week 2 hours......i'm taking a week off now cause i get to mutch information, how much time did you spend modeling in maya ? all the time, are you a freak in modeling, i model every night but im still trying to get a decent head.... how long did it took you when you finally got a decent head ?

Hey Roy, you might want to check out the plugin for Maya that allows you to model with nurbs, by using bezier spline curves. I forgot the website address but, it's link is on Highend 3D.

The model looks VERY good to me. Textures will really help, there is nothing that is sticking out as "wrong". It just seems that everybody has their quibble.
Looks good!
Wow :) great job on the body and face, I really think the feet and hands should be little bit bigger they look to small from some angels but it might be the camera settings... superb :)

I spent almost all of my time to modleling, but it's time to take a rest now:)
I spend about 3 day to bulid her head, except her teeth and mouth.(But u can't see them:) )
Wow that's fast dude, did you learn to make edgeloops etc in class or did you had to find out for yourself, and when do you have to show it at school, maybe you can take some pictures of some faces when you show it to the audience i bet some peeps will scratch there head twice :D

Absolutely beautiful work Roy. I wouldn't worry about all the things that are being pointed out about your model. She is awesome, and if this is the work you come out with after 9 months, most of us are very jealous!
God, all those triangles.......Lightwave would have a absolute FIT! I wonder why it is that Maya can smooth these and LW can't? What am I missing? LW Sub-D's absolutely require quads. Oh, you can try and get away with the occasional tri, but this many? You'd never get her to look that good.

your 1st modeling in maya right!? that´s what i call maya punishment!
keep it maya it´s the best.
It's not about the software, it's about the artist. Holy wars about what software is "best" are useless, time-wasting and meaningless. It's like saying a painting is better because it was painted with a certain brand of paint or paintbrush. Each artist has his/her preference. If the art is great, who cares?

I think the most important resource of human modeling is human muscle photo and some beautiful wireframe screen capture. U can find them in the 3 above links.
To Brett H:
I try reduce those trangles to the fewest.Because them can make some trouble when mapping and animating.
To nboughen:
Really? There a many artists in China can reach this level.I'm a common one.
Yes, very sweet. Artists are using all kinds of crappy, cheap software to create amazing works of art.
nb
To Brett H.
You can model anything in LightWave that you can in any other package. I use both quads and tris all the time. It just takes practice and knowing where to place your vertices. You can create a beautiful, smooth model very quickly. Take a look at a few of my models at www.boskywoods.com
These days, there are a number of great packages all with good modeling tools. LightWave is my modeler of choice due to it's flexibility, user-friendliness and speed. Check out the Tiger head. Modeled in a day and a half.
If you're having trouble, please post an image and I'll try to help.

I agree, but maya technology it´s just so complete to any user(artist), i prefer to think that the best n intuitive a software is higher an artist can get, that doesnt make him the best...
ex: you a better driver than i, but if i have the powerful car, who wins the race 1st!?
maya its advantage....
but talking about power, softimage rules!
Well. I can understand your point of view. But to take your analogy of powerful cars further.... A novice driver is going to lose a race to an expert on the same track with the same car. In fact, an expert driver will probably win, even with a slower car.
I still think it's about the artist, and not the tools. Maya is fairly complete, yes, but has it's problems. Same with XSI, and MAX and Lightwave. (well, maybe not max ;D)
These are all borrowing each other's tools and becoming very similar in technical power. The race is no longer between the cars, but between the drivers.
Don't you think?
Nicholas Boughen
rawgon
06-01-2002, 10:19 PM
you speek wise, but the race ex was to be practical, not to dive in philosophy, i think that regardless of what anyone say the quality of the work does not come down to the tool bu rather to the talent of the artist, he´s the driver of technology. So if the drivers r equaly good...

I have one critique. TEXTURE IT NOW!!! :buttrock: I must have a fully textured image of her! She is beautiful! Very exotic, and stunning. Hurry with great perfection to put high res textures on her, and a wonderful trans map for the hair, and then render a high res image! LOL I must to see more.:D

well, the model looks nice. the proportions are great.
but one big thing.....the wireframe. the wireframe is terrible for animation. your edges are spiraling around the arms, the face is way too dense, in fact, the edges everywhere for the most part are not routed the correct way for smooth movement. the part that needs the most work is the shoulders and most importantly, how the shoulders are attatched to the chest and back. also, the elbows are fairly messy as well.
your best geometry is around the legs, how it fans around her thighs, other than that, the geometry needs a lot of work if she is ever going to move around.
she looks great rendered though.

Your model looks great. It looks like it was done in stone. I almost don't want to see it textured. If you do, I am sure it will look just as good or even better.

Roy is knee deep in production on a CG feature film right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't have the time to check the forum.

The work on the fabric and costume is stunning. Very good job. I also love the knee. You seem to have a good grasp of the underlying structure in the knee. Excellent work.
It looks like radius and ulna dive down too far into the base of the hand by the wrist. The break at the wrist is harsh. Try shortening the actual bone and leaving the hand in the same spot. Softening that break at the wrist.
Shoulders also look just a bit too round. They could use just a tiny hint of square and I think they connect a little too high at he bottom where the pectoralis major wraps under the deltoid.
