View Full Version : Wanting hands of one character to rest on hips of another
Bipdiddly 07-21-2010, 03:40 PM Hi,
Fairly new to MB, have two mocapped characters dancing, I want the hands of one to rest on the hips of another and follow them. Pinning? Auxiliary Effectors? Something like that, right? Can someone just give me a simple pointer to get me started?
Much obliged.

Aux Effectors will do the trick. Create it and then parent or constrain it to the hips.

Thanks - that is exactly what I'm after. However...
1) At one point the hands need to come off the hips for a few seconds and this seems best achieved by simply keying Reach to zero when needed (in Selection mode). Agreed? Not sure if 2) is related to this...
2) When I plot the character onto skeleton, key stance and then export (.bvh), when I go back to work on the character and plot to control rig, the parenting seems not to be working anymore, though the Auxiliary Effector is still there.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Ah, i think i've solved it by adding constraints to the character... mmmm. Finger crossed.

Yes parent constrain your hand effector to the root effector and key the weight of the constraint off when the hand needs to rise off the hips.

aux controls will work best.
once you plot to the skeleton, if you want to keep editing/adjust more just turn back on the control rig, no need to plot again.
