View Full Version : OT: Stop Motion Animation
JoelOtron 09-24-2003, 02:03 AM Hi
I had posted some clips from this project in the oh-so useful "1129"thread. :)
Here is the finished project: A music video created using traditional stop motion photography technques (no keyframing here!). I was only tangentially involved (moral support:)
The video was created by some friends of mine during the month of August. Seeing what they were up against and the determination and endurance they displayed (not to mention incredible talent and creativity) leaves me only with great admiration. Though not C4d related, I still thought I'd share with you guys and see what you think.

WOW! That's some amazing stuff! I'm always in total admiration of work like this. And they did an amazing job. The movements are fantastic and the figures look great. (And I like the homage to Metropolis.) How many people were involved? They did the whole thing in just a month?? I have a weakness for stop motion: I think it's the really the most astounding style of animation. This video just blew me away. (The song, on the other hand, is pretty forgettable. I couldn't really hear it for looking at the vid.)
aww crud a 25 meg file thats gonna take all night.

Hi Iggy
They had a month to pull it off. It was 3 guys with about 3 other helpers that worked on building and painting the sets--but the helpers werent always there. The 3 of them lived in this tiny house with no air conditioning during a heat wave. Add bright lights to that for filming, and you could imagine how hot it got.
They originally wanted to do it partly 3d, in which I might have possibly gotten involved somehow, but the guy running it wanted to do what he knew --and he wasnt a computer/3d guy. He almost refused to use a digital camera or composite in AE! A true purist.
The sets and models were pretty incredible to see. They worked pretty much day and night straight through.
They saved some time by shooting some elemens against green screen so some walk cycles could be looped and people and elements could be duplicated.
I'm hoping Scott posts the "making of" on his site soon. There were a lot of really cool innovative things they did, not just with photography but in AE.
And yes it was definitely an homage to Metropoliis.
damn dude if you ask me from what I have seen that is totally amazing animation.
I have never seen anything so good before.
MY GAWD thats sweet.
I actually only got to see about one minute of it because of the poopy 56k dying on me.
Anyway thats oscar material if you ask me.
Also good lord man I mean if that had been for a good band with a better singer and lyrics with an actual POINT. I am pretty sure they would all be famous now.
Sadly it wasn't
three cheers to the animators its simply amazing what they did.

Hey J3
You may be hearing more about this band soon. The singer is the brother of one of the guys on MTV's JACKASS and they have some kind of cult following with several DVDs currently on the market. The video was made for the bands label: Island Records, and theres hope that it will start getting airplay on MTV. So--who knows?
