I've got a city scene.

Inside this scene is a flat square shape... floating in front of the camera. I need to be able to see through it yet retain the outline of it as a contour.

I've got 2 shaders. Both are colored all black. Their contours are white. One I need to be transparent but still retain it's outline.

Rendering with Mental Ray Contour rendering...

How should I do this? I've tried making the material transparent but that doesn't work.

Does this make sense?

It would be better if you could post example.
Have you tried with cut out opacity? model just the outline? make an alpha render pass?
