View Full Version : Maya MR SubDiv Approx Displacement help

hi there,

I'm texturing a model of a building(one mesh) with about 4 uv sets to separate out the different floors so as to get maximum uv space for each floor. I want to use a displacement map for bricks for each floor separately and this is where I run into some issues with the SubD approx for displacement. Is there a way to connect separate SubD approximations to the uvsets so it calculates only for those particular faces of the object? Right now if I assign a Subd approx to the whole object it just renders out black.

Any help is much appreciated.

Now i'm wondering why it renders everything black when you do so! first try to solve that, then there is really no reason for assigning the approx only to some faces unless you want to optimize you render time. what about separating the floors and treating them on their own and the whole building as a group?

Thanks for your reply. Yes I did separate out the faces now but even then when I try and do a 2nd SubD approx on another floor it renders out just black. I'm quite sure I'm missing out a step here, haven't been able to figure it out yet.
