Hey Gang!

Here is a shot from a short film I created. I posted it several months back but have since made some major changes. Let me know what you think!

Scene looks very simple....but that could be awesome animation tho.....so it's very hard to give any critism based on that image...

Well all I really wanted was some feedback on the image.

It is simple on purpose. I didn't want to crowd the shot. The film is about Loneliness and solitude. So it was important to set the mood for the rest of film with this shot.

I guess to me, the important part was the story, not "hey look at this neat model I made." does that make any sense?

Mars is known as the red planet , Not the pink one. The scene lacks depth and contrast. Simple is one thing, boring is another.

It's actually a bit more brown/orange.

See below for the ubiquitous Mars Pathfinder photo of the surface.

Also, the scene looks a bit blurry, which is good if you did it purposefully - Mars tends to get a bit dusty from time to time, being covered in a super-fine dust. Also, I would believe (but don't trust me entirely on this one) that the Martian light should also be a great deal less saturated than Earth's. The far thinner atmosphere does not provide for nearly so much scatter. I think this would also lead to harsher shadowing, which would help in bringing greater depth to the scene.

Nice job, but you might want to give the background some depth. Right now everything is in focus.

Hey man.

I, personally like the piece. It has a sense of meaning to its simplicity. I disagree with VFXJ about it being boring, but IMO you should add a character infront of the camera, close enough to be out of focus or something so that the audience has alittle more understanding to the purpose of the piece, to show one person that actually is alone.

I also disagree with adding depth to the piece, i think that'd over do the picture with more realism than it needs.

Nice picture though, i really dig the style.

I can say, it looks red from far, brownish from the picture.

On this rendered image, it may tell that th Mars is hot, dust all over, and the color trick in our mind shows red.. so . thats how it come about.. :lightbulb

I like this picture a lot, a very poetic feeling about it.

Nice Scene...
Atmosphere and sky looks a bit cloudy, with no shadows etc, which should not be on Mars :)
Also , it needs a road, I feel.

Yeah, maybe I should explaine the short film better.

It was inspired by The Martian Chronicles, written by Ray Bradbury. The Mars presented to the reader in that book is not mars as it exists but more like mars as we wished exsited. So I was going for a very relaxed realistic approach to this film. a stylized version of mars. and a stylized version of reality. Go to my website to check out more pictures from the film.

as far as the depth of field issues are concerned, I can see how changing the amount of focus would add something to the image. However, at the time I felt that it was beter to go with a deeper focus for the exterior shots, which for me anyway, felt more real.
