I am from Hyderabad, India. I am a commerce graduate from an open university. I have 6 years experience in Motion graphics (Broadcast Design) and Compositing. I worked as a compositor in an animation IPO where I had the privilege of being a part of prestigious projects like
Mickey Mouse Club House, Skyland, Geotrax, Tak and the Power of Juju and The Madagascar Penguins.

Now, my problem is that I want to pursue masters degree in visual effects in an american university for which I am not sure of whether I am qualified enough for the course as I am a Commerce graduate & that too from an open university. I did two certificate courses (1 year each) from Arena Multimedia which is pretty famous in my country. On the flipside I hope I am eligible as I have 6+ years of industry experience and I have worked on internationally acclaimed projects, 2 of which have won daytime emmy awards.

Can anyone please guide me as to how I can get enrolled for masters in an american university? (i chose Academy of Art San Francisco). Is it possible for me to get into a masters program? If not which course am I eligible for? Please help me out...Please...

Have you tried contacting the university you're trying to attend? I'd think they would have a lot better information than we would.

Why do you want a masters degree?
Do you plan on teaching?

I want a masters\bachelors degree as I want to upgrade my profile. I have this feeling that my profile is too low to go global. I need to improve my subject and work in a creative environment and go places. Well, Sanjayji, I could figure out from your description that you are working right now. Where and what did you study? I have an intense desire to study MFA at Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Can a course in FXPHD.com help me in getting into masters in a good american university? Can you please guide me about how to get a seat there? Thanks in advance.

A masters degree isnt going to impress employers. Ultimately a good demo reel is what will, irrespective of where you went to school, or if you went to school at all. The only thing that will matter in your case is that if you want to work in North America, getting a work visa is much easier if you have a degree, which you already do.

I went to Gnomon and was in their 2 year CG Certificate Program, which is now called Digital Production.

But I want to study there as well. I have this intense desire of studying in the US. Can you please suggest me which course\university will suit me the best. Thanks in advance.

Do they teach motion graphics (broadcast design) at Gnomon?
I've also heard that gnomon is the most expensive VFX school.. is it true?

If you want to work in the US you'll need at least a Bachelor's degree to qualify for a visa. A Master's is even better because it qualifies you for a special visa.

Whatever you may think of Gnomon's school, they don't issue degrees, just certificates.

AA in SF issues degrees, but you might want to look at other schools too.

What do you want to do? Motion graphics? visual effects? tech, art or both? That matters when you pick you school.

Never heard of fxphd. No idea what a school admissions officer would think of it.

If you go to AAU you are probably looking at a similar price to Gnomon. From my understanding they are not exactly giving out scholarships like candy at AAU and the cost of living in SF is very high - if it comes down to you dropping 80k on a school, any school, it should be Gnomon for that price (and no, they don't teach motion graphics/AE.)

SCAD is something you should look into. Location wise it's got some things to be desired, but they have a very large international student population and are very good about making you feel welcomed. They also offer BFAs and Masters in both Motion Graphics and Visual Effects. I believe if you did the VSFX MFA you would get something like six electives, which you could use to take Motion/Broadcast classes. They also offer scholarships much more liberally than most other art schools. Cost should definitely be a factor here, if all you want is to get your foot into the US, you don't need to be massively in debt to do it.

Do you think I can make it to SCAD? I have seen the college profile and it best suits my requirements. What are the prerequisites for doing MA (motion media design) at SCAD? Please help!

If you really want know the prerequisite for SCAD, take a look at the requirement for grads. Those that are pursuing a Masters must submit a portfolio. Contact the admissions and seek more help.

All the best!
