This is the basis for my idea. It's a road marker. instead of open plains, I'm going to try and stick it in a dense forest (if time and my PC allow). I also expect to put one or two creatures in here, as landscape scenes without creatures bugs the heck outta me. My final render will be in Bryce but the majority of my work is being done in Rhino.
I've attached the first two angles I have on this as a 3D model.

Here's where the model is now.

That's pretty cool. I like the look of the marker. In the later pics either the trees are really huge, or the marker is really small. Could you tell us a bit about the scale of your theme?

Thanks. The trees are really big. THey stand as tall as redwoods mostly. The marker itself is about teh size of a man (6-7ft.). It's one of the last remnants of a civilization that destroyed itself hundreds of years ago. The Great Road, to which it helped guide passer-bys along, has long since become overgrown with vegetation. Yet, somehow, through the years, the magic within the marker has stayed strong, lighting the way at night to the ancient ruins of the once great city, Perlain.

Teyon-
I really like the start of this and look forward to a more detailed and textured scene. Very cool idea and it looks to be implemented well so far. I think my main critique right now would be the grass, assuming it is grass, is a bit thick and beefy for grass. But if it is some sorta Aloe like plant then it is pretty close to perfect so...I guess I'll just have to wait until you texture it or tell me what you were going for :)

Hey, thanks. It's a fern like plant (or at least that's what I want it to be). I will be placing regualr grass in there soon.
SIMPLY ONE OF THE BEST!:applause: :applause:

Teyon, looking good my man! I love how u always colour your wips with lights of different colours. It should look brilliant when done....cant wait to see what creatures you have in store for us! :)
Cool concept, and it's coming together nicely already!
I agree that the scale seems slightly odd (mainly because the main point of focus is a very nice little doo-dah, and it'd be a shame to lose it against the girth of those trunks) - but I know that it'll all come together and my concerns are pointless :D
MORE! *cracks the whip* :wip:

Thanks everyone. I ran into a snag with the layout in Bryce, so I changed it again but this time it's more cinematic and gives a good sense of density, while keeping things open. You should like it I think. I may smack a Rhino render or two on my final pic just because I like them so much.
AJ, no site yet? I've been looking for it...I've been to almost everyone's site but yours :(
Speaking of which, I'm happy you finally got some space, Leigh.
Take care and I'll come back tonight.

Due to a problem with MY ISP and that fact that I'm moving into a new apartment, I haven't had much time to work on anything more than a fairy's body and a few sketches for some ohter creatures. I just wanted to keep you all updated. I'll post a pic as soon as I can.

Well, I'm back. After a few lord awful color tests with a sparse forest, I've decide to stick with a grey image.
I've also nearly finished one of the fairies for the pic and I have on emore to go. THen it's on to the main character. I was wondering if it was okay for me to layer the final image? My PC is choking on the large Rhino file and I know it won't render the full scene in time for the challenge. I was thinking of rendering a few of the foreground elements, midground and background stuff seperately and then smacking it together in Photoshop at the end. I hope that's okay.
Oh, here's the TERRIBLE color test. Just awful.

This is the fairy. SHe has slightly different wings than a typical fairy because...well, just because really.
I saw your nick at the top of this forum and was going to PM you saying "Where's your challenge entry update!" - but then I spyed that you had one!
Hooray!
Got lost in the midst of postings over here... the fairy looks nice, wel actually she/it looks kinda evil! But in a nice/evil kinda way :D
More chant the crowd! More! More!

Thanks for that. I'm not so sure I'll be able to catch up on this by the time the challenge ends (been hunting for work and my roomate's giving birth...soemtime this week). If I get lucky, I'll try to squeeze in at least one more update.
By the by...your stuff is turning out great, I'm truly impressed.
