Here is a small thread on inside pics of Valve studio.
Short but sweet, and how often do they allow cameras in studio while working on to be released games?

I just remember reading about how much of a lock down Konami was during MGS2. That would be a dream tour :)

I was there a few months back for a BUNGIE/VALVE meeting. A trading of personal E3 demos if you will...

They have a very, very nice studio space. All industrial with plywood and metal everywhere.

One conference room had a thick steel table and plywood floors [with a thick clearcoat on them]. Really nice stuff.

Good ambiance. Nice view of Bellevue too.

The only downpoint is that they have individual offices. The open "pit" atmosphere of BUNGIE is where all the killer communication comes into play...as well as cursing your neighbor as he shoots you in the face during an eveneing match of Halo 2 multiplayer. :)

I do enjoy open "pit" atmosphere as it is a lot of fun. But you've got to admit... personal offices allow for a degree of concentration that simply can not be achieved in a pit.

yes and no.

quality product is a direct reflection of the degree of concentration, not to mention communication.

too easy to close your door and be an introvert in an office...especially during crunch time, when direct communication is often needed the most.

the other nice thing about offices, is that you have walls to hang all your stuff. ;)

i think i've only wanted an office office just so i don't have to listen to my music through headphones ;)

i'm a fan of the banter that takes place in pits, it can bring the team a lil closer, well, seems to me like that. then again though, i tend to have the ability to completely zone out everything around me and just concentrate on what i'm doing when i need to, so maybe thats why pits work out for me.

and i've got a wall to hang my stuff on! :buttrock:

back to the point of the post, that was a cool thread about the tour. i'm really lookin forward to that game....and now it looks like i get to hold off a lil longer till i get the new computer to run it! :)

Doesn't closed offices just encourage too much porn surfing?

And I thought that flying beastie was part Manatee.

Very interesting link. Thanks for that.
