Here is the link to watch the simulation: flamethrower1 (http://speffects.com/images/postings/flamethrower1.mp4)

Hi,

looks pretty nice for a "first" pass :) . It looks a bit strange when the flame moves forward, at a certain position it looks as if it was cutoff cleanly by something.
I guess you will definitely need more smoke later on.
What software are you working in ?

Greetings

Thanks TekniX. I am using Maya. Yes, when the flame first comes out it is hitting the border of its container. I am keeping the container small for right now to get decent simulation times.I am still focusing on the flames right now. I am trying to get more of a vortex type action at the end. Right now it just looks like something burning at the end of a pole.

Hi todd, are you emitting fluid from particles? If so, could you share some pointers, i dont seem to be getting your results with my setup :S

Yes, I am emitting fluid from nParticles. Yeah, fluids and nParticles have different agendas. I think the first thing you should do is focus on the nParticles. Get their motion right. I am using them just for the initial stream and then killing them off.

I just finished another rough draft. I moved my incandescence bias closer to black and added some drag to the nParticles. I really like where this is headed although as far as a project is concerned I have no clue.

flamethrower2 (http://speffects.com/images/postings/flamethrower2.mp4)

Oh yeah, I lowered my base resolution for flamethrower2 as well. I will hike it back up later but the sim times were just too long. That will get rid of the ball/chunky look.

Whats the actual res on that todd? It looks realy good.
Im gonna try and switch to nparticles and see if i get something nicer out of them.

I used a base resolution of 100. For the hires I am using 220.

well thats kind of what im using... so strange i dont get even near those results :S
maybe im doing something wrong, 1st time emitting fluids from particles with 2011...

Hmmmm, make sure you are using Inherit Velocity on the fluid emitter.

Hmmmm, make sure you are using Inherit Velocity on the fluid emitter.

Inherit Velocity is on, acually set at 0.9. I need to remake my whole setup cause now my flamethrower is an actual fast moving plane, so i need the fluidbox to move with it otherwise im getting lots of negative velocities. For this new setup ill use nparticles and ill see about getting exact match between my particles and my fluid.
