Hi all,

Here is a Labrador I'm working on:
http://www.essania.net//wip/dog/dog_wip6.jpg

Took me days to get this result. This is my first organic model, I'm more in the architecural or advertising area.

What do you think of it so far?
I dont want it to be a very realistic model, but more a "cool to see" one.

Hi Julian W. nice to see you here :-)

Hello and welcome

struggling with organic modelling myself at the mo. so understand the time that goes into this stuff early on in the learning process

dog..
to me the ear looks like it needs alot more work. its over simple compared to the rest of the model.

not sure about the lower lip.. though i dont have any dogs hanging about for reference!

post wireframes!

cheers
rik

Cool doogie!

i would say

=> the ear definitely needs some work; too pointy at the end, make it larger.

=> you should push back the lower jaw; and push a little its X_scale.

Otherwise i'd say woofwoof, nice job so far. May we have a wireview????

keep on pushing :wip:

Thanks all for the comments.

Yes, the ears are the last thing I've done late at night. I will work on it...
For the jaws and lips, too it still need work.

Now I'm concentrate on the body, to get a better idea of the whole thing. Then I'll add details and adjustment.
Then texture...

I'll post a wire picture.

Nataz, thanks. I've already seen this offer and e-mailed them.
I'm waiting for their answer.

Thanks again to all.

the ears look fine from that angle
perhaps its just the edges of the ear that need work?

Essania

Thanks!

Yes, the ear look a bit better with this angle, although I didn't touch them yet.
I will add some details.
The work go on...

Man thats one dog gone good mesh I am so loving that.

ohh pardon the pun, it was intended. I think this would make a great animation too

Ohh yea tell us if you get that job personally I think they would be on crack not to hire you after I saw that portfolio of yours.

The real people on crack are the townpeople of yverdon!!!!

If you've seen Essania's portfolio you may have noticed that cooooool structure on water.

That was supposed to be made really to host a sci-fi museum, and the people of the city turned it down by vote (AAAAARR!):banghead:  :annoyed:

Nope dude; you don't want to live there! It's...it's...it's.... SWITZERLAAAAAAAAAND!

Essania

Nataz, I see that you like switzerland as much as I do ;)

Thanks all for the compliments on my architecture work.
Far easier to do than this dog. It was a lot of work, though...

this guy is mad :surprised
I'd rather do an animal each day than even think about trying to do a simple house! :D

Seriously, that's really amazing how some people think what they do is easy (Essania obviously think organic is hard stuff when my brain melt as soon as i think about architecture).

Got a friend which says exactly the same between nurbs modelling in 3DS Max and my poly modelling with c4d; this guy is GOD to me (check it out (http://raph.com/3dartists/artgallery/ag-ap415.html) ) but when he sees my poor attempts he can't stop saying "i'll never be able to do that"...

Pretty weird isn't it?

Looking good so far!!

We have 2 Labradors, and even they are quite different in shape and emphasis, but I can say that you are pretty much there generically speaking.

The ear needs attention - particularly it's thickness, and the rear 'point' needs to be more angular - are you going for the soft or alert look?

The neck looks too bulky and needs some definition adding!

Looking forward to more! - not the easiest subject to model!

Essania

Yes Nataz, what seem easy for some is difficult for others :-)

Thanks kromekat for your suggestion.
I've download some labrador image from google, and yes they are different, thin one, fat one, etc...
So I have to make it as I want, but still looking as a labrador :-)

I'm working on the neck. Difficult part in fact. Between the head and the torso...

I was wondering how the ears should be, because like all dogs, ears are very expressive, so I don't know yet, if I want him to be soft or alert.

It's not the easiest to me for sure :-)
And I want to make a wolf after this dog (I love wolf).

Great job Essania. Very convincing model and a nice mesh. Any thoughts about animating him? If so I'd be a little concerned about the mouth area, which doesn't seem to incorporate natural loops. But if you're not animating it doesn't matter.

Essania
09-25-2003, 05:12 PM
Thanks Adam,

At the beginning, it was not meant to be animated, simply because I know nothing about CA.

But, if I have time, I will use it to learn about animating characters
So I'll have certainly some questions about the mesh...

I've worked on the head and neck, and added the feets.
Comments?

really nice!
I would say that the feets (the hands?...bref, les papattes) are too small and the tails is still boxy but i think it's not gonna stay like this.

the mouth seems better; but it still make me feel like the lower jaw isn't fixed in the right place, just a little too low... according to my anatomy book anyway.

keep up this dog will go woof soon!
