hey!
i was having fun making a rope bridge with pflow toolbox here is my result...

i think it can be improved further? what would be the best way to make realistic rope break with toolbox (or is binding a lot of small cylinders the best approach?)

thanks! :)

Nice :)

I suppose it depends on how you want to break it.

You have a few options. The easiest approach would be to use a physx solvent on the binds. This completely dissolves binds according to the params you set; be it by icon, time, data channel, or specific Glue test.

The next option would be via the breakability parameters in the Glue Test itself. This gives you the ability to impose collisions and/or forces to create the failure. I say the latter is easier, simply for the fact that you will have to adjust the Glue params until you get a correct feel for the breakage.

Of course, you can use both at the same time :)

There is a scene file (max9) at the bottom of the page:

Nice one, HornBerger!
John is the unsung hero of glueing and breaking his visual guide tutorials should help you out :)

thanks for the post

yea i feel so too its a bit tricky to get the correct settings for breakable by force.. i find solvent easier..

neat.. pflow toolbox has the best documentation (compared to sitni sati tools like fume fx and after burn) how to make the jittering of the particles more stable? (the rope is a bit jittery in the animation at the end of the page, after the bridge is broken by the falling cubes) i tried physX drag, but it has affect on all the scene...

thanks!

Thankfully that is an easy fix, just enable "Allow Binding Penetration" in the Upper Ropes Events PhysX Glue, The jitter was coming from the interpenetration of the collision object holding the end of the rope.

You could also add a PhysX Drag to this event and select continuous, the continuous setting carries downstream, just as Glue Binds do when set to continuous do. This will only effect the particles in the event where the Drag was applied.

Yer not soo bad yerself Ansi :)
