View Full Version : Rotating the model, then returning it to its original position
scotttygett 09-23-2003, 04:35 AM Isn't there a tool/plug-in that allows one to move/rotate a model in order to tug or dimple or flatten one area according to its normals, and then return the model to its exact position, so it doesn't lose morphing/texture alignment?
All the terms I can think of for searching for this are universals like "reference null..."
Help?

Have you tried using Normal Move? The move tool in DI's powertools also has a averaged normal mode.

C-plane.
Aligns a model temporarily to the origin, then you can edit, then turn off C-plane to return model to orignal position.
Super-shift, in David Ikeda's toolset, allows you to smooth shift polys along their normals.

YAY!
The example I was doing was making a woman's blouse from the 1950's look very flat across the bodice.
But, I've needed to use a tool like that about 10,000 times, so I'm guessing that if I have a polygon that isn't exactly oriented the way desired for Pole/Stretch, I grab one polygon, and rotate it how I want it, then apply "C-plane?"
What a nice tool. Is there somethinig else folks use? I don't remember seeing it in the lists of favorite plug-in's...
These are nice threads though: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4060&highlight=favorite+scripts
