Beyond Mediocre

Hi,
I've a scene containing a visible omni light with falloff (a glow effect) and a cube primitive next to it with a total alpha material applied to it, so that it is fully invisible.
My problem is that if the light falloff zone enters the invisible object then refraction still applies, even with 'scene exclusion' applied in compositing tags and the light itself.
Before crying 'glitch!' I'd like to see if anyone has experienced this before or knows what I'm doing wrong, or if there's a work around.
I've attached a simplified scene if anyone wants to see for themselves.
Thanks for reading.
Jon
