Since I'm currently testing Dpit EFFEX for a review, I thought it would be a nice idea to join this challenge to learn the ins and outs of the plugin. Here's a first test:

Nice early test. Good luck.

Hey Marijn,

glad you made it. :)

Use a bigger domain size in Effex. Also for these high speed effects, use the CFL time mode maybe with 3 substeps. Otherwise you end up with too much numerical error.

Looking forward to your progress and good luck!

Thanks guys! Increasing my domain size does not really change the animation, other than slowing it down and changing the color of the fire. The substeps help, thanks! I have now added an invisible cone for the fire to travel through, which helps at making the fire less "gassy":

Flamethrower v2 (Quicktime) (http://www.c4dlounge.eu/forum/marijn/flamethrower_3.mov)

I also started with my victim for the animation. "Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits."

I like the lighting! Funny idea for the 'victim' too :)

Thanks guys! Increasing my domain size does not really change the animation, other than slowing it down and changing the color of the fire.

And thatīs exatly what it should do. Slower because it must travel longer distances and changing fire color because the temperature diffuses more inside 20m than inside a 1m domain (and the fire color is dependent on the temperature).

If you use a lower domain size, well, the dynamics will always be that of this domain size. You should rather adapt your dynamic settings to the domain size, instead of the domain size to your dynamic settings. I still think the evolution looks too fast, too low scaled.

The victim is great though. Very funny!

Thanks guys! Here's a shot of the flamethrower:

I agree with you, I just meant that increasing the domain size does not change the "behaviour" of the animation. Do you have any tips on making the evolution less low scaled? I've been playing around with the subgrid settings, but so far I have not been very successful. I'm using fluid particles and wind for the emission (kind of like the flamethrower example from the EFFEX files). Thanks for the tips so far!

Here's an update on my flame thrower animation. I like the colours and the effect, but wasn't able to get the exact flow I wanted. So this is a more "gassy" flame thrower if you will. Hope you like it! I don't really have a lot of time left before the deadline to work on this, so this will probably be very close to the final result.

Today I finished my short film for this contest. Check it out:

By the way, should final entries be posted in a separate topic? I couldn't find this in the contest rules. Thanks!

Congrats man! Looks good! I really like the tip of the flame thrower. Can't tell if its 3d or not! :)

By the way, should final entries be posted in a separate topic? I couldn't find this in the contest rules. Thanks!

On Monday, Roberto will post a thread for the final entries, and on that thread you can submit a thumbnail, description, and link to your video. :)

Hi Roberto, it's already in there (second entry), so did you just miss it or should I add something to the entry?

@ivanisavich: What do you think I did with them already... *evil laugh*
