Error: Unable to parse header for userPrefs.mel

this is my error i get when i start up maya 3
i just reinstalled it. what can i do to fix this problem.
please help i need to make it work right. i have portfolio review tuesday. so i really need to make it work.

I'm honestly not sure about that one. Have you tried alias|wavefront's site. You might be able to get help there.

ok i got my user preference fixed. all you have to do is save what your setting are at the time and then restart maya and you shouldnt have the problem.

i have one more problem left, how do i change my automatic clipping values. my settings read 13.2146, 168,322.

the problem looks like this..
i have my perspective window positioned for a render and when it renders it seems like the persp cam zooms out on the render and its smaller. hhhmmm i dont know whats going on...
