Hello

This is my first level design I have ever done. I'm aiming to make this a mult. player map. I am hoping to get some crit on how it is going the design of the level, the level of detail, lighting, and textures. (as I go along). I am using maya 2011.

One things I am really wanting to ask is how to create a good rock or stone model. I have been working on them for the BG mountain, and the cave ones but I feel that they could be better but I am unsure as to how to do that. I am also looking to make some better plants and trees. I was looking at grass in game models from like COD4 and they seem to have a pattern/patch work effect that works well from a far. Trees are another matter. I tried my hand at them. http://zerostrike.cgsociety.org/gallery/ and I am not sure if they came out that great and it was only half a tree. What is the best what to start out making a tree. I know that the leaves are a difficult part but can be made with simple planes. Its the mapping on the base of the tree that is the problem I am finding. Any help on those would be great.

If your goal is to make a multiplayer level design, you need to put this in a game engine such as UDK or Sandbox. Once you've placed it in there, you'll be able to run around, and get better ideas of scale. This day and age, if it's not real time it's a waste of time.

Artistically, check out these two guy's sites. They have loads of tutorials that can either drive or inspire you. And please don't come back with that "oh I checked this out it didn't help" If so you didn't read anything.

Thank you a bunch for the links and the crit GradiusCancer. I'll have to download UDK and check that out on my bro's nice desktop PC. I'll look up what the scale conversion is for Maya to UDK so I can scale my work into UDK. I am thinking that I have to bring them in individually as FBX file type. I should also download Mudbox or Zbrush to make some cool normal maps to the rock or other models in the environment.

I was trying to get a cloud bank with a sky into this update but for some reason the 3D container doesn't seem to render in the Maya software renderer. Idk if there is something special I have to do on that one. Other than that I tried putting some grass and lighting in. I am going to have to work on the lighting. I need some practice with both of them.

It might look better you worked on the UVs and tried to avoid texture stretching.
