Hi all,
First time joining the HCR. Hopefully I can finish the challenge. Here's what I have so far based on Frazetta's Neanderthal painting.

still working on a lot of anatomy issues, critiques are very welcome.

Had a few hours today to work on the challenge. So i made a rough rig in Maya and posed him.
Also decided to size down on the project and focus on one character instead of the entire diorama.

Here's the particular guy in the original painting that I want to focus on.

Here's the rigged and posed base mesh in maya.

The rig and base mesh topology are both really rough. At this point I just want to get a feeling on the character better. The base mesh didn't deform too horribly as I originally thought it would be.

Here's the posed base mesh with reprojected sculpting in zbrush.

Next up is to do a retopology pass on the base mesh so it has cleaner edge loops, is more animation friendly and works better with the rig.

Let me know what do you guys think. Thanks for looking!

Hey yqin. Great job on that sculpt. Great sense of weight on the flesh. Upper body looks like it is very long compared to the painting. Hope this shows what I mean.

Too bad you decided for only one. Doing just the front 3 would be so bad ass looking.

Good luck. This is already looking awesome.

the anatomy should be more smooth.

Hey Yan! Looking forward to seeing what you can do!

I'm working on a Frazetta painting too. Its the John Carter of Mars one. Maybe you can continue giving me crits? ;)

cool choice too. I agree about the anatomy - the first thing that jumps out though is that you've made him very bottom heavy [the belly in particular feels like he's swallowed a load of stones]
