Wow, so most of a restless night's work on this problem yielded pretty much nothing.
As the title suggests, I'm trying to create a simple thruster flame effect for a spaceship - the hitch seems to generally be that in this scene I'm using the mental ray renderer, daylight system for lighting, and mr Photographic Exposure Control. For a start, using a volume light effect doesn't seem to work since for whatever reason it's only visible out in the void - can't see anything where the effect would 'overlap' the ship itself.
Method 2 - trying to texture a tube, add a glow effect, etc, yielded pretty pathetic results.
So any help, kids?
