That's just rotoscoping right? I understood that rotomation was a combination of animation, rotoscoping and hand-tracking 3d* elements to match tracked background plates. Could be wrong though.
EDIT: *CG, not stereo...

It is usually "mocap from 2d tracking" using something like a tracking software that generates a rough match to live action plate, giving you depth, postion, rotate on to a skeleton from that track.

sort of, just not doing it by hand, since tracking software gives you actual depth information. but yes, same concept of matching 3d cameras to liveaction plates just applied to character limbs.
