(http://assets.cgsociety.org/nvart/424491_1277984420/1024bound)As technology advanced, giving us the opportunity to explore new planets, it was found that the planet Gliese 581 c, first discovered in 2007 over 20 light years away from Earth, is actually habitable. The first explorers found a vast dried salt lake closely resembling Lake Bonneville in North America and named it New Bonneville. This discovery was a new challenge for the Shark Speed Team, famous for breaking numerous speed records. People will always love to compete and overcome new challenges, just as we do now in the NVArt - ACCELERATE competition.

Good luck to everyone!

Now that's in the spartan spirit and grandeur of Syd Mead! Did you paint this?

Syd's got this balance between Spartan, yet grander than life, other worldly quality in lot of his artwork. I like this entry the best.

Thank you everyone for your posts. Thanks, I appreciate it a lot!

I originally wanted to do a dynamic shot, but I decided to keep it clean and simple so that the curves of the vehicles and their harmony would stand out on the clean environment of the salt lake. I like the likeness of sharks in the vast space of the sea and the artificial shark on the vast salt flat - dried out sea. You can feel the space and freedom. And one more thing, even when the sea is dried out, it's still a dangerous place because the sharks are still there. :D

The colours depend on the actual colour temperature of the star Gliese 581 - 3480K.

The picture isn't painted. It's a render.

Syd's style... I thought a lot about it and I sketched a lot of shapes... I didn't want to do just a variation on some existing Syd's work (vehicle or scene). My aim was to try and understand the essence of Syd's style and then add something mine to it, something new.

Then of course some background story... I like it when sci-fi is at least a little influenced by real facts and doesn't take place somewhere totally bizarre. Then you can identify with the fiction and say to yourself... maybe if I would live long enough, I could actually live to see this. :) Maybe we will live to see at least the colonization of the Moon, Mars and who knows maybe even Gliese 581 c or Gliese 581 d and New Bonneville will be discovered and DaisyBelle will race against White Shark. ;) Btw MRC444, great design, like a bird.

Thank you once again!

Here are some pictures for a better view of the big vehicle:

I definitely think you've caught the essence of Syd's style and added some very nice mechanical/technical designs to the wheels that seem very plausible: beautiful form and function. That's good sci-fi.

Very seemless render with the environment. It feels like a Syd painting. What did you render it in? Vray, MR, Maxwell?

Very surprised. It's clean and sleek and fits perfectly in the environment you chose for it. Yours is still on one of my favs. :)
