ok, so i need some help here. this may seem a bit odd, but i'm trying to create a piece of chicken. a piece of kfc popcorn chicken to be exact.

this seemed simpler than its turning out to be. any advice on a way to go about making this would be of great help

here is a picture of what im going for

sorry about the links, just copy and paste them into your browser...

and here is my attempt so far. all this is, is a modelled poly with a bump map and texture. i've also tried a few things with displacemnt maps but a running into trouble...i'm lost..please help

The second link you posted doesn't work - it's simply a "http:///" that leads nowhere

Hmmm, being vegetarian, and therefore never having eaten KFC, I'm a bit at a loss for any offhand suggestions, however looking at the reference pic you posted, I think that the best solution would probably be to use procedural textures :)

I'm not too familiar with Maya's procedural textures just yet (sorry), but I'm sure you can make something like this. You could, I'm sure, construct the bump/displacement using a combination of procedurals quite easily. Then it would simply be a matter of assigning colours (not too hard in this case - you could maybe even find some pics of sand or whatnot), and getting the shading right (a combination of slightly greasy and batter looks).

Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is a rather obscure situation! And since, as I mentioned, I'm not too familiar with Maya's procedural toolset, I can't offer advice as to which procedurals to use...

thanks so much for your response. i will def keep at it, and work wth the bump/displacent. because i feel like the main issue, is gettng that shape, without haveing to have all that geometry, hence the displacement.

i have a texture of some chicken, which hopefully will work out ok, but i will def need to add to it.

yeah, and by the way..this is completely random to me also, not much of a kfc eater either, so this is sort of funny to me.. funny in a sort of painful way...

Displacement would be the way to go. I'm not a Maya user either, but maybe these links will help.
