This is the first time I'm participating in a CGTalk challenge, hope I don't break any rules on accident. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Anyway, Frank Frazetta is one of my favorite painters; I couldn't pass this up. In addition to being a huge Frazetta fan, I'm also a giant nerd when it comes to the works of Robert E. Howard so I'm doing the Warrior with Ball and Chain painting. I know it doesn't have Conan in the title but I always loved the painting and imagined it as Conan.

Here's a link to the painting:

It was hard to narrow down my choice. The image that tied for first in my mind was the illustration of Eowyn fighting the Witch-King. I may still change my mind but as of right now, I'm doing the Conan painting.

Here is the Eowyn vs. Witch-King image:

Alright here's my base mesh. I'm afraid I might have followed my source image a little too closely. I meant to make it really loose. Oh well. I may also change the hands so that they are modeled as fists from the very beginning. Any thoughts on that? I'm obviously not going to be rigging or animating this character so I think it might be quicker that way.

Can't wait until next week. I have the whole week free so I'll really be able to work non-stop on this guy.

Ok I must be the first person to change their subject. But it's best to make changes early. My base mesh will still work. I'm switching from single character to diorama. I'm going to do the following painting...

I realized that my first choice involved a boring pose compared to Frazetta's other work so I thought I'd choose something more dynamic. I'm going to start with Conan and then move on to the girl. I really hope I make it to the villain because otherwise it'll look like Conan is angry at the woman :D

Oh man, there would be no way to do that piece without the villain. He is the main subject.

Hope the switch works out.

At last! I have some time to work on this. I have most of next week free so hopefully I'll be able to catch up on it.

Feel free to critique all you want, how else am I supposed to get better?

I'm thoroughly impressed with all of the other entries so far. There is not one entry that isn't very very good!

Alright I haven't updated in a while, so here's where I'm at so far. I'm still fine tuning the different poses for the characters. I was worried about the wizard but he turned out to be the easiest to model. I used nCloth to get the basic shape of the robes. Now all I have to do is sculpt the folds in zBrush.
