View Full Version : [WIP] Deus EX machina
Ikari 09-21-2003, 05:04 AM huhu
a new WIP from me. my goal is a mixture of mythic and technical look, maybe like anime (means exaggareted and monumental) especially NGE.
so its untextured and lacks of some detail, but i'm working on it.
i'm thinking about to add some nifty weapons and just cant decide if i should take a big twohanded monstersword or two katana's for akimbo-style fighting.
chara has about 81000 polygons so far and i worked several hours in the modell (about 13-15) nd hope to finish the modelling in two weeks.
i welcome any tip and suggestion about texturing, scene and lighting cause i dont have any idea which way the textures should go:shrug:

Nice going :), keep up the good work, looking forward to updates... --ndat

great stuff!
really like it ... and I´m quite curious to see further developement
fo the texturing - I think first off all you have got to decide which direction it should go: some suggestions:
• bright white wings and most of the body too just a bit of color for the robotic part - silver or grey - giving the impression of a lightfilled astral angel
• dirty, rusty, torn off, like after a fight
• dark, black, and variations of grey with red details - devlish
• barock: white with shiny golden parts
... and now as I look longer on it I´m not sure anymore if I like the machine gun and the "shooting box" on his sholder.
I would like to see him just with a two hander in his hands ... that seems more like a symbiosys of an archangel and a robocreature to me .. the guns - for me - are not his way of fighting
post on : )

very impressive start. The robo has much detail, very nice.
I think the feather are a bit too blocky. I would make more
but finer feathers. As for texturing I like the idea of an angel
- like in the movie "Brazil".

in that perspective pic...the noise is very high...maybe you could use it like that but i would also maybe add some mist/fog/dust...maybe volumetric lighting.
cool model though bud...
as far texturing him..what sort of environment is it gonna be in...eg snow..desert...mountain...
wear and tear...rusting...shiny new and sparkly...colour scheme...camoflage...military colours...burn marks...smoke marks...scratches...whatever just let your imagination run riot bud...it will look cool.

update 1280x1280 // 103 kbyte (http://people.freenet.de/angeloi/Apocalyptic_Angel_V3_with_sword.jpg)
no textures, no HDRI or GI or even any special effects (cause of rendertime, this i will use in the final textured version)
slowly gettin to a more mystic style

i wanted to go in that anime-style, where everything, especially technique, is very big, very impressive and detailed, but also most useless *g*
so i think this (still WIP) render goes even more in the mystic direction
for texturing: right now, i like the idea of that white, lightfilled and heavenly style for it, but does it go together with that machines parts? what do you think?

MY GAWD thats amazing.
Some one counts asa cinema god now hope you don't mind but you have just been christened a cinema god.
Sweet jesus I like that er well I think that heavenely syle is great,
If this is not front page material I am a wombat. My lord I think I just found a new wall paper, I guess pupi's NLA army pic is coming down.
But yea thats gonna be a great model in almost any enviornment, It would look specially cool in a big cathedral with the stained glass and the colored light pouring down on him.
However thats just an idea I can't argue with what you already have dude its pretty damn amazing, first class work.

wow goood man!
the model as it is rocks - no crits abbout that - only the lighning has to errors to me
• the field of the spot light doesn´t touch the tip of the wings - or are they left black on purpose
• the cloudy lightartefacts are too strong or perhaps you should leave them away at all
give it a hdri/radiosity rendersession
and the texturing of course sooner or later

Impressive. I am very excited how this looks textured.
My only little critique is about the loincloth and the cape.
If they are made of textile than I would tweak the folds.
As it is the folds don't look very realistic. Don't get me
wrong this is a great model, thumbs up.
cheers, Bob

nice i like it.
comments are detailing on guy can hardly see cos white is so blown out.
chains is a nice idea...but links are a bit messed...but i got all the sympathy for ya on this cos tried to do a chain the other day turned out to be a pain in the ass.
what i was thinking is how about electronic futurist manacles...instead of old fashioned types...they look cool. but think Iron Man style...with force rope lightning running inbetween could be cool....manacle thing also covers the whole hand.
the good thing about your current method is you can see the hands grasping.
dunno just a thought..i'll see if i can find a pic for ya...better explain what i mean.

He a Barbarella revival (I think the classic movie was called Barbarella right?). Nice work. Maybe post it in the new Evocative forum since you are trying to achieve a special mood with this render.
Nice work so far.
Damn!!
That last pic is grand. Did you model the babe as well? She looks awesome (besides the tips of the hair). Great work all round.

thx for your very nice comments!
right now cleaning out mesh errors, after that i'll work in the right environment. i dont head after photorealism, more for a "full-of-emotion" picture. after getting further, i'll post it in the evocative.
so my question:
any suggestions about ta possible environment? (church etc)
thx in advance
flingster

the doorway of a church...look up towards the alter...with volumetric light streaming in through the stained glass windows.
maybe to obvious for ya...but would certainly suit the character.
