View Full Version : help with shiny and yellow things... (aka gold)

hi everyone i ma currently working on painting a sketch, and have run into a problem... i don't really know how to make convincing gold

i was wondering if there were any good tutorials out there or if you had any tips?...

anyway thisis what i cuold come up with on my first couple of tries... its umm... ok, but it lacks that *POW* HEY IM GOLD!!!! look i think it needs...

this is part of a shoulder pad and is blown up about 2 times thew size i painted it at to show the details... (it is not that large on the origonal sketch)

anyway hope to get some help with this... thanks in advance...

Gold, like any other metal, will reflect colors, highlights and shadows of objects around it. You just have to tint it a little more to the yellow side to make it appear gold, as opposed to aluminum or silver.

Take a look at other metal objects around you to see how light reflects off of metal surfaces. A fork, knife or spoon would make a good reference item.
