Thanks for the warm welcome!

Here's some process. It's really tough to work on Zbrush after almost two years of CG rehab. This is his head, spent 2-3 hours on it, so I suppose I'll go back for a 2nd pass (if doctors approve).

You lost me here. Care to elaborate?

Great work on the head you really managed to capture his vibes.

Cheers!

Tremendous amount of detail considering how much of the guys face is shadowed in the original painting. Something me and my friends were discussing about this pic last night. Notice how big he is compared to the 4 polar bears. Not only that but the bears are in the foreground which makes him even bigger. He must be about 10 feet tall.

Eh, what's that all about? Everything okay in the carpel tunnel...

Love the head, you can see that he is a real warrior. Looking forward to see the polar bears sculpted, curious about the fur.

hey guys, thanks for the feedback.

GerR, thanks! I thought I'd use hair and fur but I might stick to the blocky stylized look (although with some rework).

akhenaten, thanks dude. How are you doing?

TheRazorsEdge, Don't worry about the rehab/doctors issue, it was a bad joke...(referring to all the time off of personal work. Which btw got me a new girlfriend that I'm living with, and some healthy lifestyle for a change).

WyattHarris, yeah he is a big fellah haha! We'll see when I bring everything together...gotta do a blockout sooner than later

Ballo, hey tio cuanto tiempo. I suppose you have improved a lot, I'm curious! Thanks for the feedback!

Lionbrush, hehe,

spideyman, cheers mate.

mancubus, thanks chap. I'll try to not disappoint!

I love this image and the way you made the head (even the current lighting). Come on, I want to see those bears !

Good luck...

You chose the most challenging image in my opinon!

Also a great start. The sides of the head looks wrong (lacking the zygomatic arch)
but I think it will be covered by the helmet anyway heh. So no real crits so far :)

Hi again,

Thanks for the nice feedback guys! Here's some more work on it. I can barely find any time but anyway, hopefully patience will be the key!

edit: anyone knows how to pose imageshack images at 100% size? (otherwise click for larger size).

sweet I really like that filigree shoulder piece in particular

Looks cool. It would be double cool if you would make the shoulderpads and chest armor pieces separate geometry :) If not you could pop those thing out more, because they look a bit flat for now.

thanks Magda, your feedback is appreciated.

Gomez, I'm trying to go for the concept look. Don't you think it all seems pretty suck together and not like different pieces?

new wip, hands are still very rough...I'm trying to go for a Frazetta sort of anatomy.

Excellent. I love those armour parts. Indeed, the chest seems a little bit small compared to arms. But I think this is the same on the painting.

Well, good point, however you got the right to interprate things you see. I don't think we must copy everything. Especially things like that where it's obvious it is an approxiamtion in the picture. An artist need to simplify but he need to do this consciously. This does make a difference to me whether you say you simplify because it will be better for the picture or because He did this, i will do the same.

Cheers :)

good point. It did go through my head to make my own interpretation. However, even though we have the choice to do that, I'll stick to the concept when it comes to proportions. It's more challenging this way for me and it's a personal choice :)

Thanks for the input G0MEZ!

Man, this is awesome. When I first saw this contest, I remember the image you choose! It's a very nice one, would look great printed!

You're doing an amazing job here! Let me ask you: how did you do the armor details? Created your own alphas or by hand? They look insane!

Good job,

Renan.

(Sorry, no crits.)

The filigree on the armor really is impressive. Is it sculpted out in zbrush or imported? Tiny, tiny details.

FabioDona

Great details

The arm looks weird though, I'd develop them a little more

TheRazorsEdge

Great progress so far!

I have to agree with Fabio about the arms though. There is something weird-looking going on in the brachioradialis region. I think its bulging too far inwards towards the pronator and flexor group. Plus it almost looks like he's got two brachialis muscles, one extending upwards and the other backwards. Also, I'd slim the arms down a bit overall. Don't forget that you are looking at perspective distortion with the arm angled strongly toward the viewer.

Anyways, great work on the armor, but I think it really wouldnt hurt to widen his chest a tad. To my eyes his chest looks massive in the original image, since his torso is pretty strongly angled sideways. The round medallion type thing is in my opinion neither centered on his chest nor attached to the chainmail/armor, but appears to be part of a diagonally worn metallic strap/equipment of some kind. If you look real close you can see the connecting links etc. Btw, that's a really thick belt or some kind of a speed-sled harness (to prevent the warrior from falling out of the sled when unbalanced or injured. You can see the connecting straps here as well.) and not part of the upper body armor, as you can clearly see by the animal skin overlapping out from underneath. Just my two cents. ;)

Cheers and keep up the great work!:arteest:
