Hello Everyone,
We recently finish This project which is an inhouse work we did in our spare time
between works. It was a test for a future project which we might do.
There are links here for 4 different lighting versions: 1. daylight, 2. night,
3. sunny day, 4. camera flash. and another page with the shades renders.

**EDIT**
We finally finished rendering a short animation sequence of this scene.
This is a flythrough animation which will give you a chance too see
the classroom in greater details.
One frame took 1:30 minutes to render in average. there were 1300 frames in total.
multipile this for the stereoscopic version we also did. but it was rendered in 15 computers
so it wasn't that bad...
Regular non-stereoscopic version:

Are the specs of dust a particle system, or were they added in post? Just curious as to what the raw renders looked like, and what the post production process on them was like.

First of all, here's the short making of. it's not showing much of a special technique,
but rather a video which gather the whole process of this piece and shrank it to 1 minute.
vimeo:
http://vimeo.com/12888604
youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjjnqoQKCEo&hd=1
and some comments for questions that were asked:
Rusty7 - it took for 1 angle aprox. 2 hours to render.
rishiinamdar, veljko-lemonade, EladDabush - the entire project took 5 month
to complete but the work on it was on and off all the way. most of the time only
I worked on it but got lots of feedbacks from the entire crew here which were very
helpful. AFX was used for the post.
Macker, they were added at the post. it was much easier to achieve this effect
by faking it rather then doing it "physically". you can see the renders before
the post work in the makingof video.
Thanks again!
Insane, just insane. Real good work.
Lol I just keep staring at the frames, amazing.

Man I'm freaking out! I really AM!
exactly ow many texture maps and shaders you got in that scene?
I'm specially amazed about the amateur photography, the flashy one. I never see that in 3d, and is an incredible approach to photo-realism.

Beautiful work. Just great. Thanks for posting. I look forward to some info on vray settings. I'm doing some interiors right now, and find that LC+BruteForce is the best (with very detailed DMC threshold settings). I played around with IrradMap as my primary, but found that to get equal quality (no blotchiness), it was near the same amount of time as BF. I would think 2 hours is about right for this (as in quite well tuned). Great stuff!

06-28-2010, 07:23 PM
Amazing in all aspects !! My favorite is the sunny day version.
Only one little critique : Maybe the glows in the night version are a little bit too much for photorealism.
Otherwise just incredibly perfect :)

Bravo! Totally amazing! Your detailed work shows how lighting in a day varies proportionally with time. We often neglect the fact that there are changes in lighting within the day for we can't evaluate it directly with what we can see with our eyes, but with this, you detailed it perfectly. Very good work!

stunning! my favorites are the night shots hard lit by the camera flash. totally get this Silent Hill/Resident Evil feel. small thing for me was the chair metal textures do look better in the daytime.
great stuff. you've inspired me to take on one of the computer labs here at school sometime down the road.

Hello Everyone,
I want to thank you all again for taking the time and writing such great a comments.
It's really heartwarming and i really appreciating it.
I'm currently rendering short walk through sequence and the minute it will be ready i will post it here.
Stillwell - I'm using afx for color correction not just with animation seq but with stills just as well. I find it more easier and flexible to work with then doing it with photoshop and thats mainly because everything you do there stays "open" and can be adjust again later.
harlequin02 - I'm did this with quad and 4mb ram. not a monster computer but it handled it.
now that I start rendering the animation seq of this scene, I do it on all the studio's computers (16 computer overall, from quads to i7's).
marner0501,carloscrespo3d - well, it took 6 month overall but i didn't work on it constantly. there were lots of pauses. it was mainly me but i had good critiques from the entire crew which helped me a lot in the process of this.
Final thing, for all of you who requested a detailed making of article, i will try to do it but it might take some time for me to get to it... as you know it requires some work and time which i don't have much lately.
i'll do the effort and the minute it will be done i will post it here.
Thanks again and best regards,
Meny
Even I can not totally astounded. Wonderful job with a excellent level of detail.
Undoubtedly one of the most detailed renderings I saw in my life.

Hello everyone,
We finally finished rendering a short animation sequence of this scene.

Hi,
how do you achieve this very interesting post production pass on the edges to create this "vintage" look ? Looks like a blue channel slightly offset to the right and a red channel slightly offset to the left. I'm not talking about the stereoscopic version here, it's on all the frames but really subtle.
