Oh wow, Frank Frazetta influenced me a lot when I was kid. This is what I'll be doing for this challenge. I thin its great also for exercise. It has male, female and horse anatomy for me to practice on. Can't wait to see what the other participants come up with because this is a great topic to work on.

Very sweet choice! This has been done as a statue, you know!? I can't remember the artists name though. He does a lot of comic book hero stuff.

Cheers and best of luck!

Sweet. Yeah, this was one of the ones I was planning to do at first. I still want to do it :)

Good luck!

Felix, Tim Bruckner did a statue of the picture. I found a few photographs of the sculpt and it serves as a great 3D reference but I will try and stick to Frazetta's work more.

d8D, saw your thread and your choice is pretty good as well :).

So anyway I managed to put a few hours into it and modelled the base meshes with proper topology so I wouldn't have to retopologise afterwords. Posed them in ZBrush but I'm still struggling with overall proportion and matching the pose on the picture. Some help and crit would be greatly appreciated.

I figured this might be of help to you.

If you flip between this one and yours, you should be able to see the difference in the positioning and scale. (this is still off a bit too so I would only use it for general scale.)

The front leg looks like it might be missing a joint up near the body, but maybe that is just the position that it is in.

Nice base mesh.

Thanks GerR, that paintover really helped me understand what's off.

Excellent work so far! This is one of my favorite Frazetta paintings.

I remember that I saw that image in a traditional sculpture...oh yes, reelart studios.

maybe that could help.

TheArchDuke, thank you :).

Ballo, yeah I have those in my reference folder. They did a pretty good job but not an exact copy of the pose. Still good reference though.

Anyway, I did the changes suggested by GerR and I started developing the head a little bit.
Please, tell me what you think might need fixing.

WOW, spideyman! The face looks awesome! Maybe the cheekbones are a little bit to small. I think they look kind of rounder in the painting. Keep it up!

TonyClifton, thanks. I agree with your crit. Also I think the eyes don't look angry enough.

Bravo, stava mnogo dobre!
I think the face is going very well, looks different from the painting but maybe you are not copying it directly, several suggestions about the man's face, hope you don't mind... its going well you are near the expression, in my opinion it needs wider chin and cheekbones (his forehead is a lot narrower than the cheeks area), also on the painting his eyes are closer to each other so his nostrils are bellow the middle of the irises and also I am not sure but think his nose has a twist in profile. Good progress keep it up!

Mersi, ludgidia! :)

You are very right about those changes but I'm still not sure if I want to do the heads as Frazetta did. I wanted to add a little bit of my own touch but I don't know if that's a good idea yet.

Anyway, the weekend just finished and I had a little bit more time to fiddle with it. I've changed the poses a bit here and there and they don't quite match up to the painting but still I'm not sure if I want to do a 100% copy.
