ShortFuseNZ 09-20-2003, 03:50 AM I have a character finished and i just want to pose him for some renders not animation.
Is there a easy way to do this or do i have to do the whole Bone IK thing. I dont really wanna do this cause im just posin him for renders.

Well since you want him in multiple poses then you're going to have to rig him. Good news is that you might get away with a quick sloppy skinning job as long as the poses aren't too extreme from the intial pose. That would also limit the bones you would need to have. However odds are that you may not get all the poses you want and due to poor skinning your mesh could potentially do some wacky creasing.
Personally I say spend the time on a good rig and skin job, and then you can use the model for anything. Even a full animation later down the road if need be. Not to mention avoiding potential problems now.
Why don't you just use character studio
biped? You can apply physique and attach
it to the bones in about 30 minutes to
an hour. The kinematics are already
applied to the biped so you can just
grab the figure and pose it.
I dunno if you have character studio but if you do, use it, also since you asked this question i'm going to assume your fairly new to max, sorry if i'm wrong... So i'm just going to give you a couple of tips for rigging that kept me stoked for months, when you do physice go into vertex mode and select individual vertexs and assign them to links, another thing is to make sure they are not connected to bad areas, common problems include the chin attached to the chest and the armpits are almost always never right. I dunno if that helps but there you go.

Im new to character riggin but not max modellin. But tips are always welcome.
I got it sorted out though. I just made a really budget skeleton. It has no hand bones or head bone, but it got the body into the pose i wanted.
As for character studio, i may have to try it out :)
