View Full Version : Short Animation: AJ - Private Detective
Tughan 09-19-2003, 10:34 PM Hi there my friends. Here is my latest, and "actualy" first Short Animation. It took over 4 months to complete. You may check out my WIP post at here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77510&perpage=20&pagenumber=1) to know more about development proccess of the animation.
AJ is a Private Detective and this short animation shows how he breaks in criminals hideouts and how does he deals with badguys. He is a man with attitude. :)
Well. I wanted to create an action scene like John Woo movies. I really enjoy doing this, and I hope you enjoy watching it. (I always wanted to say that heh heh heh) I'd also love to read your Critiques & Feedback. Thanks all...

Your style shows a lot of promise. I really like the look. I would work on the animation a little, it seems a bit stiff.
Good work!

Hahaha! Loved it, not the most detailed animation i've ever seen, but wonderful job with the feel and look, especially love the John Woo/ CHow Yun-Fat. Also well done on the editing! Stiff but very cool

Thank you guys. I agree with this "stiff" thing. But actually that Reactor Cloth Dynamics really restrict me from making some "smooth" moves. It was hard to hold that trenchcoat. :) I was going to make AJ jump like Max Payne, etc... Maybe next time. How about AJ 2?
Cool! He's up and about and shooting people dead!
I'm impressed that you got Reactor to handle the coat so well - most of my cloth/deforming mesh attempts have been less than terrible!
Now keep going until you get to the 23rd installment...

dude....u did nice job...but there were few problems like
clothe was too fluffy....when the private I kills the first guy...thou he does that very nicely....the second gun did not come appear in convincing way....
loved ur music...very nice action ;)

Good work. Your cloth was reacting to the movements like silk; a stiffer jacket would have been a bit more convincing. Also if possible mabye make it buttoned at the top so that your guy can move more freely without fear of it falling off :)

I agree with you guys about that cloth. But I have reasons. :D
First, If I made cloth a little bit stiff it intersect with body. Because my character model doesn't have normal human proportions. You know he's got big head and he has no neck.
Second... man it was hard to setup and simulate cloth. My computer is a P4 1600GHz 512mb ram and every time I try cloth simulation it takes around 30minutes. Try, tweak, try again, tweak. Oh...
That is latest simulation I get.
I'll do much better next time. ;)
man i gotta learn how to do that cloth stuff, the coat was perfect, **** every one, when i wear clothes that are to big they fall off me like that to ;), well i spose it would have been nice if it didn't fall off his shoulders, couldn't you select the individual verts and attack them to a helper attached to the back of his neck and shoulders to stop him loosing it?... hmm i dunno, sorry, dunno if that would work, i gotta find a cloth tutorial

I don't want to use or even think about Reactor ever again. :scream:
I'm warning you my friend, don't get into it, it'll eat you alive. YES, Run before Havoc catch you!
Ok... I'm fine...

are you planning on making any more shorts with this badass. i loved it but i wanted more. make more with this guy. like have him kill 2000 ninjas with a single bullet. ok that was the lamest idea ever but you can think of something i stand at your feet and bow.

Actually yes. I'm planing to make more. Maybe not about killing 2000 Ninjas with one bullet. :) But there'll be story, and different action scenes. I should start right away. But I want to RE-Model the main character A.J. It wont be a realistic model. It'll be same Anime/Cartoony mixup style. But I think a little bit more detail wont hurt a bit. What do you think about the current character model? How should I improve it? (don't say anything about glasses:D )

i liked him maybe just make his mouth a bit better to getb better expresions. other than that dont change any thing i thinks its perfect for the type of films hell be in its like the perfect mix of reality and unreality.

That was incredibly awesome! There was some stiffness in some of his movement, but the stunts and camera movement, and all of that was insane! You need to make a short movie... like 15-30 minutes in length, with a plot and all. That would be a sight to see.
Once again, great stuff. Keep it up!

other than his coat being way too loose, very good work

Thanks for your comments.
mmProj: I used Havoc Reactor to make the coat. It was really hard to get a decent looking cloth. You need to have experience and free time to get it work, because it's really time consuming to tweak cloth parameters. If you ask me I'll say "don't touch it" :scream:
Dancing Monkey: Thank you very much my friend. Actualy I have something in my mind. Some action story. Main Character will be the same A.J. guy. But I'll Re-Model it. And I'll use different rig method. This time, I'm not gonna use Cloth Dynamics... That cloth really limited character's movements. Thats why that "some stiffness" happened. :p
Smoke: Like I said... I'm not gonna use Cloth Dynamics again. :)

Well... I've changed my Domain/Hosting. So from now on AJ - Private Detective animation URL address is http://www.tughan.com/anims/AJ_640x480_divx5.avi
By the way, this is the new revised hi-res version of the short.
For those who didn't watched it first time, this might be the change for you too :P
Thanks...
:applause:
