apologies, thought people knew of it and I'd get straight to the point.
Hyper Island is a design school in Stockholm (http://www.hyperisland.se/), and I'd like to hear comments of their curriculum and time spent "studying" there.
Hey there!
I've recently graduated from the motion graphic designer course in Hyper Island this summer, and during my stay there I've experience a lot from discipline, client management, time planning and team building. As for the technical side, I didn't really learn that much it since the classes aimed for a broader knowledge into the digital industries. Although I've managed to learn some basics into 3D and other stuff during our spare time. Student's had the priviledge to have their own lesson and teach people who are interested. The class is a bit mixed, some people had work experience and some just came out from high school which could've been more organized in my opinion.
As for the lectures, we got people from all over the world coming to us and teach us how the agencies works out there. This year, we had for example, Nick Campbell from GreyScaleGorilla and One Size. We receive tasks from these people which usually involves doing a 3D animation or a animation concept. Some lectures was unrelevant for us, we often get the assignment which Digital Media receive and their assignment usually involves tech and business management.
Since we were the first actual motion graphic class at Hyper Island, we had our downsides. but I think the upcoming classes in both Stockholm and Karlskrona will have their improvements.
So to sum this up a bit quick:
Pros:
- Lectures
- Creative People
- Broad Communication
Cons:
- Assignments
- Schedule
Anyone other questions, feel free to ask :)

it sounds like a very pragmatic school ;)
i'm actually not entirely interested in technical coursework, as I can learn much of it on my own. but how does the school help creatively? does it rely on fellow classmates for inspiration on ideas/styles?
and how reputable is the school? do most graduates have a job coming out?
Thanks, appreciate the response
