View Full Version : Simulating glow effects in AE 5.5

Hello all,

Is there a method in AE (like an effect) that can glow
parts of an image based on RGB values? In this case anything between 230-255 gets "glowed"

The glow filter that comes standard doesn't seem to have this flexibility. Is there another plugin that does this better, or better yet a method with the standard production bundle?

I like to have more control over my renders in AE than rendering out in Max. It takes too long to render some effects per frame in Max anyways.

Any advice is appreciated.

First of all, a good glow FX is "shine" from Trapcode.

You could render the Layer/Movie, then re-import it and color-correct it in a way that values under 230 are black and apply the glow only to that layer, so that values under 235 will not glow.

why render out a movie when you can simply pre-compose it?

You could also:

1) Duplicate your image layer.

2) Do a luma key to key out anything darker than 230.

3) Apply the glow effect to the remaining parts of the layer :D
