Hey ho


Here is an image I made for a swedish entertainment-magazine. It is an illustration for an article complaining about the general lack of massive helicopter scenes in swedish films :rolleyes:

The art director wanted an image expressing action and (of course) a chopper. He asked for it to have a sort of airbrush feel.

It was not originally rendered with the fire-backdrop... (as you might notice on the motion blur areas) but the client really wanted fire. Due to to a tight deadline I rendered a separate fire-layer and comped it in with PS.

I still like it very much better without the fire; the color-balance is better and I think it has more speed without.

Here is a better display of the model I built for this. I started out following drawings of real apache-choppers, but pretty soon deserted them and went on "free hand" since I only had two days to build and would never achieve anywhere near a realistic level of detail.
So... beware chopper-fetishists ;)

hehe så skön bild!.. jag tycker att infernot ger mer styrka till helikoptern utan elden så verkar den bara vara otroligt snabb på något sett, jag tycker om den med elden mer iaf ;) men jag antar att din kund blir/blev riktigt nöjd

e det en surfing bräda där? :D

Yeap CnexS, that is a surfing borard, added in a rush. The article is (of course) commenting those hefty chopper-scenes in Apocalypse Now. The AD wanted a reference to that.

Cool style and love the surf board (nice touch):thumbsup:
I'd agree that the image is better without the fire background.
The only thing I don't like is the smoke trail on the closest missle.
but of thats just me

Very cool style. The chain cannon is great and I love your smoke effects. I must disagree on the surfboard :( I really don't like it's color compared to the rest of the scene.
