I think it looks good for a first try (try posting a image with symmetry on ^^) I think you need to pay attention to proportions, the upper leg looks really flat. try looking at anatomy (look at posemaniacs.com, a great reference website) And try modeling using this reference (make a front and side view and put those in your viewport on planes). This helped me alot....

edit: looked at your pictures once more. Dont try to get highpoly in the first stages, I always start of with 8 sided cilinders. If you have the basic shape right you can add edgeloops to define your character more. I obviously don't know if you did so, and in what stage this model is...but it never hurts to say so right....

Whenever i try and put symmetry modifier on it, it never looks right.. Ill have to tweak the settings or something to make it look right. Thanks for the input.

In imageshack there s a forum code for directly displaying your images here-you can copy/paste that code here.

Put some more light in the scenes, now they re dark,If you want them dark, light one side and leave the other dark and raise a bit the background color so the model wont fade to the background.
You re doing fine. For the symmetry you just have to place the mesh a little off the middle (0) x coordinates for it to work.

Watch this thread: http://www.max3d.pl/forum/showthread.php?t=34695 Try to copy topology from any of these meshes.

I think your polycount is too high at the moment. I think you should have maybe 8 faces around the arms and legs working out major shapes and proportions before adding more edges and getting into more detail.
