View Full Version : Parts of mesh missing after updating to 5.1

Hi all,
I've made an object in max 5.0, and after updating Max to v5.1, some parts of my mesh are missing! The object is just an editable mesh, and it's not a very complicated mesh. Anyone know how this is possible?

Also, I can't use directx 9, even not after installing the 5.1 update...

Well, I think I've the problem myself. I used a boolean operator and an edit mesh modifier a couple of times on the same mesh. After extracting operands (so I can see the original objects I did the boolean on), the mesh turns normal again.
I guess booleans and edit mesh modifiers aren't the right way to build meshes...

Still, I find it strange that Max 5.1 f***es up my mesh, and 5.0 doesn't....

Cheers!

yep i get the same thing
for models i made in max 4
now its full of hole
i think the solution is
to load the models in max 4 and export them as .3ds
then import them again in max 5
textures and all are supported.

I haven't had the problems...yet :surprised

But could it be a normal flipping issue??

You guys got me skeeered now:eek:

I just tried it on one object, but no, the mesh really ISN'T THERE, so flipping the normals isn't the solution.
I discovered another problem, aslo on an object created with boolean, and the mesh is become different! In the spaceship I built, the is a new polygon running from the wing to the back. :surprised . There are aslo other differences, so i'll go for zukezuko's solution :)

Try File > Merge and pick the parts you need.
Been known to fix quite a few file problems.

Woo! I have now 3D max 5.0 AND 5.1 installed, I converted my weird boolean object to an editable mesh in 5.0, opened it in 5.1, and it's totally repaired!!!

Cheers.
