Hi all,

My problem is that I would like to model a terrain for the inside of a torus shape.
Preferably as a flat surface and deform it to fit the radius of a torus.
Hopefully someone can suggest a technique as my attempts have failed.

This is a space habitat project I am doing for fun. I'm just a hobbyist.
Here is an idea of what I am working on:

Can I do this then make the terrain deform to a circle circumference without ruining the terrain too much? I'd like to work on several levels of detail for distant renders and close up.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Hi! What software are you using? It looks 3D max to me, am I wrong? If you use Maya, try the paint fx tool and add vegetation to your space city!!!

I think you should copy and paste the tube, and start a new scene with it. Deforming a plane to a round shape would not give optimal results I think....

So paste the tube to a new scene, and add lots of geometry and new textures on it, use instances and *bevel all your edges * !!! Of course, the fastest (and "cheapiest") way to achieve the look you want would be to apply a different "city" texture on the faces inside the ring... But models would give you better results, no?

After your modeling, you can comp and mix your two scenes together by matching the camera. If you just want to render a single image (vs animation), you can do a lot in photoshop.... Have fun!
