CGTalk - Rendering Wireframe Options?

Im wondering if there is another way to do this besides hardware render and WireData. My WireData free trial just ran out. I'd like a solution that is free if at all possible.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hardware render
mental ray
Vector render
use the grid texture as transparancy
