I have a small animation, i want to run it at approximately 800x600, quality is fairly important, but I want the image when played in windows media player to run very smoothly, what compressor would you suggest?

Also many people use Div X, since file size is not of great importance, only good quality and smooth playback is, what settings would you advise if Div X was the best choice?

I'd use the default setting if I need small file size. Changing the second setting (2 Passes I guess) would give you very good quality but with a large file size... yes large but compared to other codecs : it's very small !!
One last thing,I'd use always 640X480 to get best result.
