Thought I would throw my hat into the ring

Have an idea with little demons coming out of the building, hanging from the trees..etc

Only thing done so far is the colums.

Whats that? Its supposed to be a forest?!?!?! I know...working on it. Digital camera is working overtime finding textures

C&C always welcome and needed

The texturing and modeling on those colums is goregous. Quick question: Is the format of your final render going to be the same as the format of this picture? Or it this just cropped down to show the detail of this stuff? I ask because it looks like it would be difficult to fit a forrest into the frame without the composition looking crowded. Any way fantastic start...looks like I'm going to have a tough time competeing against this one.:D

ZrO-1 - This was the planned compesition, with a deep forest in the background, and a creative use of shadows from the sunlight to convey the look of a canopy from the shadows. But now that you say that I think I see your point. As far as a tough time competing I think you don't have anything to worry about. Yours is coming along wonderfully and the idea is great.

Cool idea with the canopy overhead. That should look really awesome with the way you have the camera looking up. I didn't even think of that.

Your stone textures are goregous. I'll be happy if I can get mine half as good as that.

This is looking cool  Looking forward to seeing the forest though...
The vines crawling up the pillar are great! You should consider adding some flowers to it too. And maybe another strand ot two crawling up as well!! You should also add some vines to the little building itself, an possibly also in the cracks on the steps...
The detail on the door frame (where it is broken) and those parts that stick out to either side of the door - are those modelled, or are you using a clip map??
An idea - seeing as there are going to be demons and things - in other words, inhabitants - it would be a nice touch to add some evidence of their culture - possibly some markings/carvings in the walls?
Are you going to have the piece of pillar that broke off elsewhere in your scene, or has it just been completely weathered away? If that is the case, then surely the other pillar would also be gone? :surprised Just a thought.

Your lighting looks cool so far. Keep up the good work.

By the way, your avatar, for some reason, always reminds me of Ewan Mcgregor in a jawa outfit. Bizarre.... :surprised

Thanks for the replies and thoughts

GrAnt - Thanks Yeah have not started the trees yet. I have gone on a digital camera expedition and got some great textures and tiled them up in PS. All set for materials there. Just not sure how I am going to go about modeling them yet, and to be honest, the forest is the thing I am looking forward to the least in this image. Ironnic huh?

Leigh - Thanks I agree about the vines. Started making some coming down off the roof of the building. I was thinking about adding some flowers, but I think I would like to leave the scene a little evil looking and have most of the color in the end, besides blue and green, to come from the red eyes of the little demons. I want to add a great deal of vines, but I fear to much and I will get more of a jungle then a forest. Trial and Error I think. Yeah I am working on the other broken pillar today, as well as lots of chunks of marble scattered about. All the broken bits and and chunks in the models are modelled, no clip maps used yet. Not sure how I am going to go with the lighting yet. I would like to have some volume light cascading through the canopy, and I think to get the right look it will darken the scene some. Now I need to find a good way to add some smeared blood in the scene. Gotta have me some carnage.

-OZ- Wow, probably the best reply I have ever recieved. I am humbled to be getting it from you. Thanks

WoW really cool I like the sence of this image  it gives me mysteriouse feeling ,but the trees in the background I think the base of the trees must be more wide than it's top (do u know what I mean:shrug: )

Well, that certainly is starting to look like something out of Diablo :)
The mood is pretty cool now, but what would really look great is some strong shafts of volumetric lights :bounce:
The vines on the building are cool - but I think their placement is a little too...errr... contrived. They need to look more natural. At the moment they just look too intentionally placed.
