Really great work reiv, I think you achieved your goal of a more gritty, scary yet attractive mermaid! My only crit would be the bubbles in the lower right look alittle too perfect like from a bubble machine yet the ones beside her head above that and around her face look great! Also I feel the eel on her right is not needed and maybe distracts from her hypnotic gaze :)

I like the mood you created with the light too, would love to see a break down of how you composite the shot :) I think underwater scenes can be some of the most challenging to get right, again well done.

I love creepy water shots like this where you can't see all the way into the background

I am a fan of all your work...this piece is no exception- Her peacefulness mixed with the lifeless eyes and the eels behind her, is a great concept. It reminds me of Ursula from The Little Mermaid haha...only wayyyy better.

Great finishing touches with the particles, bubbles and water light marks on her shoulders, etc.

This is a beautiful and evocative image.

To me, the image is of a human woman, not a mermaid. The woman has drowned. She sinks ever deeper into the black water: the eels swim up to begin the feast.

The wonderful lighting (shading) and the sinister eels, the woman's blank eyes: all contribute to the impressive effect of the painting.

The painting reminds me of the climax of Jane Campion's "The Piano", but the heroine does not escape the chain.

What more would be needed in this image to say "mermaid", not "human"? I wonder . . .

Sounds kind of weird but her long, perfect nails look like they belong outside of the water, but then again I'm not sure if shorter nails would work either seeing that the current fingernails really accentuates her beauty... :/ Other that that its absolutely perfection to the finest degree!! :)
