View Full Version : Shadow problem

Hey,

I'm making a 3D scene which I want to try and make really realistic. But tonight I tried moving the cement tank right next to the concrete pipes so the shadow of the tank overlapped the pipes. This gave a really neat result, but I could stop noticing the shadow inside the pipes.

Here is a little image: file:///E:/My%20Dropbox/Public/4.jpgfile:///E:/My%20Dropbox/Public/4.jpghttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/1071125/4.jpg

Shouldn't the shadows inside the overlapped pipes be darker? I checked it in photoshop, the non-overlapped pipes have the same shadow color then the overlapped ones.

I also noticed that there are some darker (almost black shadows) on the floor at the pipes that I believe are realistic. So why is this not right inside the pipes? Could it be the material which has the wrong properties or something?

I hope someone can easily tell, because I'm not sure I can solve this with the knowledge I have.
But you you need renders or other info, just aks :)

Regards,
Harm

Hi, the shadow looks fine to me. The shadow inside the pipes should look pretty much the same, if you look at the front inside the pipes, the tower shadow can be seen.

Also it looks like you're using GI, which is good, the the pipes will be lighter inside the shorter they are as light is bouncing less distance, this may be what you're seeing?

Thanks for your reply, but as a matter of fact, it was the material.
I changed the material to a default danel, and all of a sudden a part of the problem was solved :)

Check it here, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1071125/7.jpg
As you can see, the single rowed pipes have much less shadow while the overlapped piped or multi rowed are almost totally black, yah :)

So with a little tuning I think I'll get a pretty nice result, maybe I'll upload the final piece here on the forum :)
