Hey guys. Been a while since I posted anything new on here. Started a female character model a 3 days ago and need some more critique on it. I been looking at tutorials and looking through other people female character as a guide with the wire frame, but can't seem to get quite the look/feel I want on her. any advice on how I should go about her or modeling a character. Thanks ahead of time

This is looking pretty cool so far.

Just a couple of things imho.

Breasts are a bit big. Are you going for cartoony or realistic? For toon it can work. For realistic it looks like silicone to me. Mind you, ain't nothing wrong with that if it's what you want.

Maybe it's the view but the model looks a bit flat. Also I would have the loops on her abdomen point downwards rather than up to match the flow of the muscles in that region.

The width of the shoulders is bothering me a bit too. Her shoulders seem to be larger than her hips, which is rarely seen in women. This makes her look more masculine.

Anywho, just my 2 cents. I'm still new to this 3d thing so maybe check with someone more experienced before listening to anything I have to say.

Keep up the good work man!

Hot reference btw ;)

Thanks for the tip archangel. i like the shape of her breast but been modeling it over and over again and cant seem to make it look more realistic as for her shoulder it seems to be the right width from the blueprints that i am using. but heres a update of it. got it retopology and smooth her out.

breasts are looking pretty square. They sort of have a corner on the lower...outer breast. and aren't relating to the shoulders the way I would expect them to. Spine looks a little odd. Butt doesn't have much definition, hands look ok except from sides where they really start looking sort of gnarled and male. Like an old arthritic mans worn out paws.
The lower arm looks a little shorter than it should be, the upper arm looks a little too long.
But that might just be because the ribcage is basically non-existant. Which isn't a problem exactly, but I would think a little more rib cage would make her look a little more natural....
maybe?
not sure.
probably.

Again what was said earlier breasts a bit big. May wish to check a real photograph to get a better feel for the shape. Personally I feel that hugeo breasts gives a character an amateur feel to it, almost a tacky feel. Waist seems off as well, looks to small. From the knee down looks almost alien like more / than | , that could just be because of a weird view though. Her butt could use a bit more dimension to it. But those being said, if you are looking to go directly from the reference material you are doing pretty good. Really depends if you are going for a stylized feel or a realistic feel.

Oh one last thing, I was told not to mix triangle geometry and square. Not totally sure why or what problems it may cause later on, but might be worth looking into.

update with the head modeled in

http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q172/Hmoob_boi06/Screenshot2010-06-25at123939PM.png

i seem have to having problem with her head. at the corner it seems to be poking out instead of smoothing back round. still have more to model and tweak around w/ her before everything is final.

fixed her breast this seems like the correct size if im not mistaken.

Breasts look much much better, still off but it's better. The head needs a lot of work still which I'm sure you are aware.

*Edit: The breasts seem like they are one object in your image, could be the view but that's what it looks like. Below is a decent reference for the bust/stomach area. The breasts in the image are smaller than your target size but the shape wouldn't change too much.

i don't if its me but her crotch area seems awkward to me though i probably can be wrong.

also in the picture below, the width around her shoulder area seems too thin or is this the right width for it??

looks like you need to merge the vertex there

looks like you need to merge the vertex there

i seemed to have fixed it. i don't if it was the vertices or the edges since i couldn't delete them but i just delete the face and extruded in some new ones. thanks for the help though

Hey,

Lots of improvement since I last saw this model, the chest and shoulders especially.

A couple of suggestions for the body:

Waistline is a bit too thin for my taste.
The thumbs seem too big, or maybe the fingers are too short, not sure.
Upper arm seems small in relation to forearm.
Wrist looks a bit bulky.
Area above collarbone looks too low to me. I would but an edge loop there and push it out a little to avoid that very sharp connection between the shoulder and the neck.

I took the liberty of making a quick paintover, I hope you don't mind.

Keep it up man, it's looking good. Hope I could help a bit.

Cheers,

The breasts on your model are not necessarily oversized, but the model seems to lack some knowledge/handling of body structure. There is a an actress named Jeri Ryan you can look up on google images for some reference photos for a very buxom yet small-waisted female model. Eventually, you might want to delve into real figure drawing and anatomy. Working from photos or books is not the best way to learn, but is better than nothing. Keep going, it can only get better!
