I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out why do I keep having a black self reflection on the car Im trying to render. I increased the raytrace reflections and shadows and max trace depth still I have a weird black reflection on the surface. The HDRI is fine, the UVS and normals are fine on the car and the environment sphere.. Im running out of ideas and time..
is this a bug? I tried maya 2008 and 2010.. I suspect it's a setting I can't nail yet
anyone has a solution or idea ? thanks!

problem solved.

For those who have this trouble.. if your the diffuse color of your mia material or car paint shader is pure black.. do not leave it pure black, increase the brightness abit more..
is there any science behind this?

If your object is pure black, of course it's going to have black reflections.

The science involved is simple. Black = black.
